Two more Aberdeenshire primary schools have become the focus of the Schools Streets safety campaign.

The scheme is aimed at improving pupil safety, reducing congestion and creating healthier environments for families and residents.

Kellands School in Inverurie and Buchanhaven Primary School in Peterhead are now part of an 18-month trial supported by the Scottish Government’s Active Travel Investment Fund.

The schemes will introduce timed traffic restrictions at key streets surrounding each school:

🚸Buchanhaven School: Hope Street and George Garden Avenue
🚸Kellands School: Martin Brae and Upper Manse Walk

During peak drop-off and pick-up times, an hour and a half in the morning and in the afternoon, access will be limited to vehicles displaying a valid permit. Exemptions will apply to residents, Blue Badge holders, emergency services, carers, public and school transport and essential service vehicles.

Clear flashing signage will alert drivers when restrictions are in operation. Drivers who ignore the restrictions may face enforcement action, including Fixed Penalty Notices.

As beautiful Stonehaven gears up for another busy tourist season packed with community events and welcoming visitors from near and far, there’s a real buzz in the air!

A huge thank you goes to our amazing volunteers, working alongside Aberdeenshire Council services, who’ve been out tidying up through the Stoney Spring Clean and Big Help Out initiatives – litter picking, sweeping pavements and keeping our town looking its very best.

Just a quick but important reminder for motorists:

Stonehaven is a popular stop for coach tours, and the designated coach bay in Market Square is essential for safe drop-off and pick-up. It’s also now the operating point for our fantastic Land Train – a fun way for visitors to explore the town. Please do not park in the coach bay at any time:

⚠️It’s reserved strictly for coaches and the Land Train
⚠️A Seasonal Traffic Order is in place
⚠️Parking here (even briefly) risks a fine from Police Scotland

Keeping this space clear helps avoid disruption and ensures all visitors can enjoy everything Stonehaven has to offer.

Let’s all do our part to support local attractions and businesses this summer by keeping the coach bay clear and ensuring every visit to Stonehaven is a great one.

08/06/2026

As work begins on the construction of the new museum and library on Peterhead’s Broad Street, there will be some surrounding road closures and waiting restrictions in place for the next 18 months.

A one-way system will be in operation from No.63 Broad Street to Seagate to enable creation of a construction compound for CHAP.

There will also be no-parking in the following areas:

❌No.59 to 77 Broad Street
❌No.40 to Rose Street
❌Rose Street (from Broad Street to James Street)

To enable works access – and only for short periods when required – James Street will be closed from Rose Street to Harbour Street. Please note the car-park for the Donalds department store will remain open throughout these works.

Meanwhile, why not pop in to the reception of Buchan House where you can see a 3D model of the project which was externally-funded and created for us by Abacus Modelmakers of Glasgow.

You can keep up to-date with progress at https://engage.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/hub-page/peterhead

And don’t forget to follow Aberdeenshire Museums Service for lots of regular updates on the team’s activities and progress of the project.

Stonehaven Conservation Area is currently under review by our Historic Environment Team.

The purpose of the review is to ensure the designation remains relevant and that the boundary of the conservation area is still appropriate.

As part of this review, we are proposing to split the existing Stonehaven Conservation Area into two sections:

🏠Old Town Conservation Area – encompassing the harbour area, with its more informal street pattern and extending along the High Street towards the Carron Water

🏠New Town Conservation Area – encompassing the planned town, with the Market Square at its centre

We are seeking views on these proposals from residents, property owners and interested parties and welcome any comments or suggestions through our online the survey which runs until August 16 https://engage.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/stonehaven-conservation-area-review

Meanwhile, as part of the review, the team has organised a ‘History of a House’ event in collaboration with the Local Studies Team. Two sessions will be held on Monday, June 15 at Stonehaven Library at 2pm and 6pm, offering guidance on how to research the history of your home.

The sessions are free, however booking is required. Further information regarding this event and how to book a place can be found via the following link: https://tinyurl.com/ydfx5nrb
