✈️ Take to the Skies with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets! ✈️

Do you have an interest in aviation and aerospace? Our Cadets often get the opportunity to take flight in both powered aircraft and gliders, and you could too!

Whether you’ve had a long standing passion for aviation or just want to try something new, there’s opportunities open for everyone. From fun flights full of aerobatics, gaining skills and knowledge on simulators and even going solo, why not come and give us a try?

Come along to our open night on the 10th of September from 1930-2130 at 865 (Portlethen) Squadron, and chat to our cadets and staff about everything that awaits you!

Portlethen Gala 2026 ☀️

What a fantastic day at Portlethen Gala!

865 (Portlethen) Squadron was delighted to be part of this year’s event, getting involved in the local community and sharing what life as an Air Cadet is all about.

A huge well done and thank you to all of our cadets and staff who helped make the day such a success. Your enthusiasm, hard work and commitment really helped showcase everything our Squadron has to offer.

And, perhaps most importantly for a Scottish summer event… it stayed dry! 🌦️😄

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our gazebo to say hello and have a a go on our VR Flight Sim! It was great to meet so many of you, and we hope to see some new faces joining us soon!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 RAF Valley Summer Camp 2026 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Five cadets and two staff from 865 (Portlethen) Squadron recently travelled to RAF Valley in North Wales for the North Scotland Wing Annual Summer Camp, joining cadets from across the Wing.

Based on the island of Anglesey, RAF Valley is home to No. 4 Flying Training School, which helps train the next generation of UK fast jet pilots.

The week gave cadets a packed programme of activities and visits, including the RAF Valley Fire Section, Air Traffic Control, Hawk engineering and maintenance facilities, and specialist survival training. They also visited 202 Squadron, which provides mountain, maritime and search and rescue training on the Jupiter helicopter, as well as 72, 25 and 4 Squadrons to learn more about fast jet training on the Texan T1 and Hawk T2.

Cadets were also fortunate to take part in question and answer sessions with the Station Warrant Officer and the Commandant of No. 4 Flying Training School, giving them a valuable insight into RAF life, leadership and the station’s role in training future fast jet aircrew.

A major highlight was the chance to use an advanced flight simulator and see aircraft operating from the station’s control tower.

Away from the airfield, cadets took part in high ropes, climbing, bouldering, orienteering, sports, leadership and team building activities. The week also included bowling, beach games, karaoke and the traditional camp paper plate awards.

It was a brilliant opportunity to experience life on an active RAF station, build new skills and make lasting memories.

A camp to remember for everyone involved!

Wishing everyone collecting their SQA exam results today the very best of luck! 🍀📚

Whatever your results may be, remember that they are only one part of your journey and don’t define who you are or what you’re capable of. You should be proud of the effort, commitment and perseverance you’ve shown along the way.

For those celebrating today, congratulations on your achievements! If things haven’t gone as planned, don’t lose sight of the many opportunities still ahead. There are always different paths to success.

That’s a wrap! RAF Valley Summer Camp 2026 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

What a fantastic way to round off an unforgettable week!

Our cadets and staff are currently travelling home after attending the North Scotland Wing RAF Valley Summer Camp. The camp came to an end yesterday with an evening on the beautiful beach beside the station, watching the sunset, having fun, and reflecting on a brilliant week.

It has been a packed camp full of exciting activities, new experiences, and opportunities for our cadets to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and create lasting memories.

🇬🇧 Armed Forces Day Parade – Aberdeen 🇬🇧

On Saturday cadets and staff from 865 (Portlethen) Air Cadets were proud to take part in the annual Armed Forces Day Parade, marching one mile down Union Street alongside members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and other youth organisations.

It was an honour to represent our squadron and show our support for the brave men and women who serve, and those who have served, our country. The parade was a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to demonstrate their teamwork, discipline, and pride while being part of such an important community event.

A huge well done to all of our cadets for their smart turnout, excellent marching, and exemplary conduct throughout the day. You represented the organisation with pride and did yourselves, your families, and the squadron proud.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support the parade and help make Armed Forces Day such a memorable occasion.

👋End of an Era…

On Thursday night, we said goodbye to Cadet Sergeant Liam Gibb as he goes off to start his career in the RAF! To celebrate his time in the organisation, his fellow NCOs threw him a party!

Liam joined the squadron back in 2022, and has been a real asset to the team ever since. Liam found himself involved in a variety of camps and activities - with a particular interest in fieldcraft, using his own skills to help develop our Cadets!

Thank you Sgt, for all your hard work and dedication to the unit for the past 4 years! We can’t wait to see all you do in your future career - never be a stranger! 🫡

🎖️ 865 (Portlethen) Squadron Presentation Night 2025🎖️

A couple of weeks ago, 865 (Portlethen) Squadron came together for its Annual Presentation and Awards Night at the Jubilee Hall. It was a chance to look back on a packed year and recognise just how much the cadets have taken on and achieved.

In the lead-up to the evening, cadets worked hard behind the scenes putting together presentations that captured their experiences across the year. From flying and fieldcraft to leadership and camps and much more. Speaking in front of a full hall of around 80 people is no easy task, but they stepped up to it and represented themselves with confidence.

This year’s event also marked the first Presentation Night under our new Officer Commanding, Fg Off Davie, giving Flt Lt McLennan the chance to sit back and enjoy the evening from a different perspective. During the night, Fg Off Davie and FS Davie presented her with flowers and gifts as a thank you for everything she has done for the squadron during her time in command.

We were pleased to welcome several distinguished guests who helped mark the occasion, including Deputy Lord Lieutenant Dr Ewan Clark, OC North Scotland Wing Wg Cdr Smith, Regional First Aid Officer Sqn Ldr Nutten, and Wing Warrant Officer WO Donaldson.

Awards presented on the night were as follows:

The night finished in a relaxed way with time to chat over tea, coffee, and of course cake, rounding off the evening on a high.

A solid year behind us, and plenty to build on going forward.
