❗ Trading Standards officers today warned parents and businesses about potentially dangerous versions of the trending squishy toys following the seizure of counterfeit items from shops in Aberdeen. ❗

Complaints were made to Trading Standards in Aberdeen by parents raising concerns about some of the toys having a strong chemical smell and the contents of others bursting or leaking during play.

While these toys are heavily promoted online through unboxing videos and viral trends and may appear harmless, children can be exposed to potential risks if the products have not been properly tested and labelled as complying with toy and product safety regulations.

The toys seized by the council’s trading standards team were examined and were identified as not have the required safety labelling, including a supplier in the UK/EU, or were confirmed to be counterfeit. Both indicate that the toys have unlikely to been subject to the required testing or meet the legal safety standards.
