To all our friends and supporters.

Please see the following Petition from Liam Kerr MSP for North East Scotland, calling on the Scottish Government to respect the decisions and views of the people of Aberdeen.

This is a chance for everyone who cares about our city to appeal to the Scottish Government to leave decisions of considerable local importance with local people and local decision makers.

This may be the last chance to save Rubislaw Quarry from over development from a project the people of Aberdeen don't want and also Aberdeen City Council don't want!

We cannot stand by and let the Scottish Government overule decisions taken at a local level.

We have seen a considerable amount of comments around the Scottish Governments decision to approve the flatted development around Rubislaw Quarry. Can we just remind our supporters and anyone following this page that we try and focus on respecting what this development means to Rubislaw Quarry, the immediate environment, our city, our citizens opinion and not get dragged into a political bun-fight. The over development of this iconic site, what it means to us, our forefathers and future generations is apolitical. Please respect this.

With astonishment & disbelief, we were advised earlier today that the Government Reporter has approved the plans to build 245 flats on the edge of Rubislaw Quarry!
This decision is an insult to the city, the city’s planning committee officials and more importantly, the thousands of proud Aberdonians who are against this development.
The Government should be hanging their heads in shame at such an incompetent decision with total disregard or respect to Aberdeen.
If you disagree with this decision, share this message long and far to let the Scottish Government know what we think of their decision.

We want to say a huge thank you to all our friends, supporters and companies who have made this weekend possible. Adventure Aberdeen who offer adventurous activities for Sport Aberdeen have run canoeing sessions at Rubislaw Quarry over Saturday and Sunday, providing a unique opportunity to appreciate one of Aberdeen’s most famous landmarks. The next 6 weeks sessions have been fully booked and Adventure Aberdeen will be looking closely at running additional sessions to help cope with the demand. Dear Friends & Supporters
Many of you will be aware that the Canadian Property Developer, whose proposal to build 245 flats on the edge of Rubislaw Quarry was rightfully and unanimously rejected by our Planning Committee, has once again appealed to the Scottish Government to overturn this decision.
All objectors will have received notification of this and we ask them kindly to read the developers Statement of Appeal dated 18th June. You can find this at www.dpea.scotland.gov.uk Type in PPA-100-2113 in the “search by case reference” box and you will find it there.
We are all going through challenging times that we have never experienced before and appreciate this appeal is unlikely to be a priority at the moment. This is exactly why it is so important to take the time to write and object, providing that is your view, once again to the Scottish Government. The developer will be hoping that our resilience has been damaged by the lockdown and it would be a tragedy if the incredible and overwhelming support and success we have acheived in fighting to protect Rubislaw Quarry from this development is lost because of this.
Any objections and further comments can be sent to [email protected] quoting reference PPA-100-2113 and must be received before Thursday 9th July.

Well done to Ava and Autumn who have now completed their Kayaking Charity Challenge. The girls were fantastic on a very warm day at the quarry and managed to exceed their 9km target. This Week Rubislaw Quarry are proud to host a Charity Event in aid of local charity Mental Health Aberdeen.


Over the last few months, like many children and adults throughout the city, Autumn and Ava have been missing spending time outside with their friends. Last week they should have been on an activities week with school but as part of an alternative activities week they have decided to take on a fund raising challenge for MHA, their school’s chosen charity.

Exercise can be very beneficial for good mental health so the girls decided to take on an outdoor challenge to raise awareness and funds for the charity. They will attempt to kayak 9km under supervised conditions on the water at RQ, the equivalent of the combined widths, across and back, of Loch Eil and Loch Long, where they were due to visit last week.

To all our Friends and supporters. The revised plans by Carttera to build a 9 storey block of 245 flats on the edge of Rubislaw Quarry was unanimously rejected by Aberdeen City’s Planning Committee 9-0.
We take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and in particular, the Planning Committee for, once again, rejecting this application. As we gradually come out of lockdown, we will be looking at ways to share the unique space of Rubislaw Quarry with you.

On a regular routine safety inspection of the quarry, just before “lockdown”, we were confronted by our pontoon being in a rather unusual position at the opposite side of the quarry with our dinghy safely secured on it. The only way to reach the pontoon was by water, so we were glad that Neil Jack and Garry Lewis (normally used to keeping the oil & gas flowing from the North Sea) offered their assistance to help recover our stricken pontoon and dinghy. Their vast strategic experience gained in the oil & gas industry made the recovery a very simple operation and within a couple of hours, our pontoon and dinghy were back in their rightful position.

We are grateful for Garry & Neil’s help who have been fantastic supporters of Rubislaw Quarry over many years

We would like to remind people that the quarry can be dangerous, so please refrain from gaining unauthorised entry to private property.

Happy Easter to all of our friends and followers!

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the granite reminiscence project due to take place later in April will now be rescheduled for later in the year. We will keep you updated here on our page.

Unfortunately, the "Swim Free Aberdeen" open water swim due to take place on Sunday 19th April, will also be re-scheduled once the Government's "self distancing" restrictions have been relaxed.

"Swim Free Aberdeen", the largest "open water" swim event at Rubislaw Quarry, was also due to be supported by Aberdeen Kayak Club, who had offered to assist with the safety and supervision of the 48 swimmers. We look forward to seeing you all at the Quarry later in the year.
