Did you know Abbotsford is a charity?

Since 2007, The Abbotsford Trust has cared for Sir Walter Scott’s historic home, preserving his legacy for future generations 🤍

Charity was close to Scott’s own heart too. After visiting Waterloo in 1815, he wrote a poem to raise funds for the widows and orphans of soldiers who lost their lives in the battle.

You can help us protect Abbotsford by making a donation, becoming a Friend of Abbotsford, joining Scott’s Abbotsford Circle, or leaving a gift in your will.

At times, Sir Walter Scott’s eldest daughter Sophia would play the harp, and songs and recitations were common after-dinner entertainments.

Dora Wordsworth described one of the last evenings that Scott spent in the drawing room:

‘In the evening Mr and Mrs Liddell sang, and Mrs Lockhart chanted old ballads to her harp, and Mr Allan hung over the back of a chair, told and humorously acted odd stories… Sir Walter was much amused’.
