Fields of France - Battlefield Tours Battlefield Tours PETER SMITH
Peter’s life has revolved around the Great War since he inherited his grandfather’s medals and diary as a small boy.

He grew up in rural East Yorkshire before joining the Territorial Army at 17. At 21 he decided he needed a little more action and enlisted as a
Royal Marines Commando, serving with them for eleven years. For the next 14 years Peter worked in the print industry, finally as the sales director for a Dorset based company. In 2004 he moved to the Somme battlefields of France with his wife and children,

where he started a bed and breakfast in the historic village of Flers. He is a prolific collector of Great War ephemera and photographs, many of which have been used in related publications. He now works full time as a historian, battlefield guide and researcher. Peter is a member of The British Commission for Military History, The Guild of Battlefield Guides, The Western Front Association, The European Tour Operators Association, and is a Friend of the Australian War Memorial.

It is with profound sadness that we have learned the news of the passing of our Royal Patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty has ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history and was a truly loved and respected figure across the globe. Her extraordinary reign saw her travel more widely than any other Monarch, undertaking countless historic overseas visits.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will never be forgotten. She will be remembered for her sense of duty, commitment, and her devotion to leading a life of service.

Thank you for your service and dedication to the Nation, the Commonwealth and our Armed Forces. Rest in peace, Ma'am

It is with deepest sorrow that the Royal British Legion marks the death of our Sovereign and Patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen has served as Patron of the Royal British Legion since 6 February 1952. We are immensely thankful for Her Majesty’s faithful service, and we join the entire Armed Forces community in mourning the loss of its Commander-in-Chief.

The Queen’s unwavering dedication to the British Armed Forces will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences are with the Royal Family at this time. Rbl.org.uk

Apologies everyone, It’s been a long time between posts, but for good reasons.

The number of visitors to the Battlefields is increasing, and Pete has just completed his first Western Front Anzac Tour, since 2019.

The public services and commemorations are returning too.

We recently attended the Dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux for Anzac Day, and I’ve had a few guided visits around the caves at Naours.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like a guided tour of the Battlefields or the Caves at Naours.

We look forward to seeing you on the Battlefields soon.

This morning I attended the rededication service for Corporal Bertie Frederick George Jeffs, of the Royal Flying Corps, at Douchy-Les-Ayette British Cemetery. It was a lovely service, attended by members of the XI (F) Squadron RAF.

A big thank you to Tom and Jonathan; It’s been a four year journey in getting Bertie identified; but you eventually got there.
Now onto the next one!
