We’re all safely home and back to normal now, but inspired again by the incredible courage, determination and sacrifice of the Allied service-members, including our family members, who saved the world in Normandy 82 years ago. May we never forget them nor their cause - bless ‘em all. 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦🇫🇷🇵🇱🇳🇴🇧🇪🇳🇱🇨🇿🇳🇿🇦🇺

As my plane climbed to altitude from Paris yesterday on the first clear day in weeks, we flew straight over the landing beaches in a wonderful, final review. 😊

On June 7th and 8th, we braved the frequent downpours to explore Omaha beach, where the US 1st Infantry Division landed; and the battlefields where the US 82d and 101st Airborne Divisions parachuted in behind Utah beach to facilitate the landing there
of the US 4th Infantry Division.

Our family members attended the annual ceremony on Omaha beach honoring Native American and First Nation soldiers, sailors and airmen on D-Day, according to the wishes of Charles Shay, proud Penobscot and Big Red One soldier. We had several encounters with our WWII veterans - always an inspiration! 🇺🇸

Our family members were able to fly on the special Delta / Best Defense Foundation flight with WWII vets. They arrived to an energetic welcome at Deauville airport in the rain. 🇺🇸🇫🇷

Our friends have departed and what a week we enjoyed with them! We will post more photos soon. On a very rainy June 6, after all the speeches, we visited the graves of our C-47 fallen comrades, placed flowers, and observed a moment of silence in gratitude and respect. 🇺🇸🇫🇷

First photos from our ceremony on June 4th. It was windy and rained hard three times but our faithful crew pressed on. Six new family members joined us this year representing flight radio operator Melvin Schullamberger and paratrooper Augustine Gonzalez.
