⚖️ Can digital tools improve access to justice for vulnerable workers?
🇲🇽 In Mexico, many workers struggle to assert their rights: two thirds of dismissed employees never receive the compensation they are legally entitled to, and fewer than 10% pursue legal action.
With FID support, researchers from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México partnered with the Mexico City Labor Court to test digital solutions designed to make labor justice more transparent, accessible and efficient.
Several tools were developed and evaluated, including applications to track legal notices, assist workers in drafting complaints, and help them identify qualified labor lawyers.
Early results are promising:
✓ 55,000 workers benefited from the digital notice system SIGNO - one of the digital applications aiming ti automate the process of sending out summons and notices for legal proceedings to parties and make it more secure - during the experimental phase
✓ the tool increased the probability of successful notification by 25%
✓ 22 of Mexico’s 32 conciliation centers have already started using it
These results highlight the potential of digital innovation to reduce procedural barriers, improve transparency, and strengthen access to justice.
