Namibia at the UN Tourism Regional Conference on Women in Tourism 🇳🇦 🇺🇳

Namibia, represented by H.E. Sabine Böhlke-Möller, Ambassador/PD of Namibia to UNTourism, Mr. Sebulon Chicalu, CEO of the Namibian Tourism Board and Ms Elise Hashikutuva, Acting Director of Tourism Development, had the pleasure to participate at the UN Tourism Regional Conference on Women in Tourism, which took place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from 29 April -1 May 2026. The meeting was part of a broader initiative led by UN Tourism to promote gender equality and women’s leadership in the global tourism sector. These events are held in different regions and bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs.
The Victoria Falls Conference and Statement aimed at moving “from empowerment to leadership” and driving structural change in tourism systems. Tourism is one of the world’s largest employers of women, but women are often concentrated in low-paid or informal roles and/or are underrepresented in leadership and ownership. This conference series therefore hopes to shift that balance by supporting women as entrepreneurs, policymakers, and investors and linking tourism development to community upliftment, especially in Africa.
The UN Tourism Regional Conferences on Women in Tourism remain relevant for the Government of Namibia, which through the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism is committed, to incorporating women's leadership targets into the forthcoming National Sustainable Tourism Growth and Development Strategy; to strengthening the collection of gender-disaggregated data in the annual Tourism Statistical Report; and to expand capacity-building programmes for women in tourism entrepreneurship in partnership with the Namibia Tourism Board. Namibia will additionally advocate, within the SADC framework, for the regional scaling of community-based tourism models that place women in ownership and governance roles.
Mr. Sebulon Chicalu also moderated a lively and informative panel discussion: ‘From Policy to Practice: Facilitating Women Leadership in Tourism’.

Courtesy Call by students from the United Nations and African Associations of Sciences Po 🇳🇦🌍

The Embassy recently had the pleasure of hosting students from the United Nations and African Associations at Sciences Po, one of France’s leading institutions in public policy and diplomacy. The African Association brings together students, both African and non-African, to promote dialogue on political, economic and cultural issues related to the African continent, while the United Nations Association seeks to bridge the gap between students and professionals in the diplomatic field.

The students demonstrated a keen interest in Namibia and strong intellectual curiosity, engaging us in thoughtful discussions on the country’s foreign policy, development trajectory, gender dynamics and regional power structures, as well as the broader global challenges shaping today’s political landscape.

Through such engagements, the Embassy advances its public diplomacy objectives by promoting informed dialogue and cultivating long-term partnerships with future decision-makers.
