Every break ends at some point. The point has been reached.
We are back🪃
.Dark and humid, the abode of nymphs and oracles, the cave also becomes the oral cavity: the space where the tongue resides, where language is articulated and disarticulated, the space we inhabit through words and narratives.
As part of the project The Promise of the Abyss or The Space of the Tongue, in collaboration with Rinomina, Ambra Pittoni invites us to collectively inhabit her temporary hypogeum through collective readings, conversations, and evocations of the nymph Echo.
Interweaving practices of fictional writing, spatial and choreographic experiments, The Promise of the Abyss or The Space of the Tongue questions how spaces and subjects are mutually and continuously constituted through the performativity of the bodies that traverse them, how presence is revealed through absence and latency, and the ability of spaces to affect modes of habitation, not only in movement but also through the gaze that spies, sees, glimpses, or believes it sees.
Drawing from Freud’s famous concept of the Unheimlich, the uncanny, the disconcerting, the project addresses questions regarding the value of disquiet as a process of dispossessing certainties, established boundaries to question suspense and disturbance as epistemological possibilities.
Throughout the exhibition, a series of works related to the artist’s research trajectory will be available for consultation: from the unsettling stories of Leonora Carrington and Shirley Jackson, to more speculative texts by Jack Halberstam, Julia Kristeva, Roger Caillois, and others.
