Singapore’s relationship with Airbus goes back more than five decades. In 1969, Airbus’ predecessor company Sud Aviation delivered eight Alouette III helicopters to the nascent The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). These helicopters went on to constitute 120 Squadron, the RSAF’s first operational helicopter unit.

The partnership between Singapore and Airbus has since expanded across the aviation value chain — from hardware acquisition, pilot training and fleet support, to regional logistics and R&D. With its Regional Headquarters and Airbus Asia Training Centre in Singapore, the company has made us an important hub for its activities in the Asia-Pacific.

I was happy to meet Airbus Executive Vice President International Mr Wouter van Wersch this afternoon to discuss how we can deepen existing areas of cooperation and create new ones, including through integrating emerging technologies such as AI into the aviation sector.

Dress Code: Smart casual / National colours

We seek your understanding that given venue constraints, requests to bring non-Singaporean accompanying guests will only be considered if they are immediate family members (spouse/parents/children). This is to allow as many Singaporeans as possible to attend the event.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will close once the maximum capacity has been reached. Please RSVP early.

Successful registrants will receive a confirmation email (to the main registrant) with a QR code, by 22 September. Please present the QR code and a Singaporean identity document for check-in on event day. Guests without proof of registration will not be admitted for security reasons.

If geography made Singapore a natural crossroads, connectivity made it a global hub.

I was pleased to call on France’s Minister for Transport Philippe Tabarot today. We had a wide-ranging discussion on Singapore-France relations and our longstanding cooperation in transport.

French companies are active across Singapore’s transport landscape. Alstom trains have carried generations of commuters on our MRT network. Thales’ footprint here stretches from rail to the skies: from systems supporting our daily rail journeys and air traffic management at Changi, to avionics and joint innovation on the future of aviation. RATP Dev is now partnering SBS Transit to operate the upcoming Jurong Region Line (JRL), becoming the first foreign operator to jointly operate an MRT line in Singapore.

But the French connection goes back much further.

As early as 1862, Messageries Maritimes, a predecessor of today’s CMA CGM, established a presence in Singapore, using the port to connect France and Asia by sea as Singapore emerged as an important link between East and West. More than 160 years later, CMA CGM remains deeply anchored in Singapore and an important part of our maritime ecosystem.

In the early 1960s, French industrialist Philippe Schereschewsky led a United Nations study on establishing an iron and steel industry in Singapore, which subsequently took root in Jurong. Six decades later, French expertise returns to Jurong through RATP Dev’s role in the new JRL.

From the ships that connected Singapore to the world in the nineteenth century to the railways that will connect the Singapore of tomorrow, transport has been an enduring thread in the Singapore-France relationship. My discussion with Minister Tabarot was an opportunity to reflect on this rich history while looking ahead to how our two countries can continue to work together to keep people, goods and ideas moving in an increasingly connected world. 🇸🇬🇫🇷

🇵🇹 A look back at Ambassador Umej Bhatia’s recent visit to Portugal for the presentation of his credentials to President António José Seguro.

While in Lisbon, Ambassador Bhatia took the opportunity to meet senior officials from Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ana Isabel Xavier, Deputy Secretary-General Fernanda Coelho and Chief of State Protocol Francisco Vaz Patto.

He also engaged widely with the diplomatic community in Lisbon. The exchanges offered valuable perspectives on Portugal and ways to strengthen cooperation and friendships between Singapore, Portugal and our partners.

Honoured to present my Letters of Credence today to President António José Seguro, formally beginning my duties as Singapore’s Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic. 🇸🇬🇵🇹

This year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Portugal, but the connections between our peoples stretch back much further. Portuguese merchants, professionals and communities were part of Singapore’s story from its early years as a trading port — a legacy that can still be seen today, from D’Almeida Street in the heart of Singapore to St Joseph’s Church, now one of our National Monuments.

From Portugal on Europe’s Atlantic edge to Singapore at the crossroads of Southeast Asia, our countries share much in common as small maritime nations with a shared commitment to an open, connected world based on the international rules-based order.

As I begin my tenure as Ambassador, I look forward to building on these longstanding connections to deepen the friendship and cooperation between Singapore and Portugal.

🌸 Paddling with purpose, strength and hope! 💗

We’re proud to share that 36 members of the Breast Cancer Foundation Paddlers in the Pink Dragonboat Team — 28 breast cancer survivors and 8 supporters — will be heading to Aix-les-Bains, France to take part in the International Breast Cancer Paddlers' Commission (IBCPC) Participatory Dragon Boat Festival from 24 to 30 August 2026!

Held on the shores of Lac du Bourget, this special international event brings together 100+ breast cancer dragonboat teams from around the world. 🌍

The festival is non-competitive, but incredibly meaningful. It celebrates recovery, resilience, friendship, community and hope — and the strength that comes from facing breast cancer together.

Singapore is proud to be one of only two Asian teams taking part, alongside the team from Shanghai.

If you’re a Singaporean and happen to be in the area, do drop by to show your support and cheer on our Paddlers in the Pink!
