Krewe de Nous! As we get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we can't wait participate in “French Quarter Museum Night.” Stroll from one museum to the next for special programming, performances, and entertainment from 4–7 pm, followed by a closing reception at the Historic New Orleans Collection. At our stop, we'll be partying it up with our Krewe de Nous and a special performance by one of our Fulbright France scholars—and, of course, our exhibit, our art books, and refreshments.

📚 Nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir à la Commission Fulbright France notre alumni Bertrand Van Ruymbeke pour une présentation de son dernier ouvrage consacré aux origines de l’indépendance américaine.

🎓 Professeur de civilisation et d’histoire des États-Unis à l’Université Paris 8, il a proposé une lecture éclairante des événements de 1776, en revenant notamment sur les choix politiques et stratégiques qui ont conduit à la naissance des États-Unis, de la Boston Tea Party à l’arrivée de Benjamin Franklin en France.

💬 La présentation a donné lieu à des échanges riches avec les participants, témoignant de l’intérêt toujours vif pour l’histoire et les relations franco-américaines.

👏 Un grand merci à Bertrand Van Ruymbeke pour cette intervention passionnante, ainsi qu’à tous les participants pour leur présence.

We are proud to highlight Melanie Ambler, Fulbright alumna (France 2019–2020), and founder of Rounds.

Her Fulbright experience in Caen, where she studied the impact of music on patients with dementia, led her to launch a virtual concert series for retirement homes during the COVID-19 lockdown. This initiative later evolved at Stanford School of Medicine into Musical Rounds, a project at the crossroads of music, medicine, and human connection.

🎶 Today, the initiative brings music directly to patients, transforming their life stories into live, improvised performances at the bedside.

🎙️ On June 2nd, Musical Rounds launched its podcast, featuring these deeply human encounters : each episode, recorded live in a single take, combines storytelling and improvised cello performance.

🤝 As Melanie shares:
“The Fulbright network has actually stayed very close to this work! Our head producer, Grace Carroll, is a Fulbright Taiwan ETA alumna, and our assistant producer, Chase Goodwin Morano, was a Fulbright fellow with me in the same 2019–2020 France cohort.”

As today is Global Running Day, we are proud to highlight Honor Paine, Fulbright France grantee (2025–2026), who recently ran the Paris Half Marathon in support of the Cure Leukemia Foundation.

A third-year medical student at Columbia University, currently spending the year in Paris at Université Paris Cité as part of her Fulbright experience, Honor shares:

“I was able to run the Paris Semi a few weeks ago in support of the Cure Leukemia Foundation. I am an avid runner and love the community it builds as well as the races. Since coming to Paris, I have joined a strong running community (shoutout KIIN run club!) and was able to train and race with some of my fellow runners in the Semi. It has been a big part of Paris feeling like home, and I am so glad to have been able to use this community and hobby to support such an amazing Foundation with a very personal goal.”

By combining her passion for running with her commitment to a meaningful cause, Honor’s initiative reflects the spirit of engagement and community at the heart of the Fulbright experience.

🎓 Professeur de civilisation et d’histoire des États-Unis à l’Université Paris 8, membre honoraire de l’Institut Universitaire de France et membre de l’American Philosophical Society, Bertrand Van Ruymbeke est spécialiste de la Révolution américaine et de l’Amérique coloniale.

On the 22nd of April, the Franco-American Fulbright Commission had the pleasure of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Fulbright Program during a special reception held at the historic Hôtel de Talleyrand.

The evening brought together members of our vibrant Fulbright community including alumni, current grantees, and partners, reflecting the strength and continuity of the program across generations. Among the distinguished guests were also the 23 Executive Directors of Fulbright Commissions across Europe, a living symbol of the transatlantic bond.

We were honored to open the event with remarks by Victoria Roberts (Chief of Staff, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State), Jehan Jones (Cultural Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Paris), and Martine Roussel (Executive Director of Fulbright France).

The celebration also featured a beautiful concert by Fulbright grantee Lily Stern () and Fulbright alumna Natalie Darst Xia (), with a concert program thoughtfully designed by Katya Vaz (). The selected repertoire highlighted composers who have spent time in France, including Philip Glass, himself a Fulbright alumnus, a meaningful tribute to the program’s lasting artistic and cultural impact.

More than an anniversary, this evening was a powerful reminder of what the Fulbright Program represents: a lasting commitment to dialogue, mutual understanding, and the belief that international exchange can build bridges between cultures and shape a more connected world.

A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us to mark this important milestone.

🎓 Un moment convivial et riche en échanges, permettant de se retrouver, de partager leurs expériences et de célébrer leur séjour en France rendu possible grâce au programme Fulbright.

🙌 Merci à eux pour leur engagement et leur contribution au dialogue entre la France et les États-Unis ; nous sommes ravis de les accompagner dans cette aventure et espérons les revoir très vite !
