On 8th September, Ambassador Sugeeshwara Gunaratna participated in the celebrations marking the inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Paris. The Ambassador also had an audience with His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, during which His Holiness conferred blessings on the Government and people of Sri Lanka. The Ambassador also addressed an audience of around 7000 devotees present on this occasion. He was accompanied by First Secretary Chaminda Udawatte during the visit.

Sri Lanka showcases its Culinary and Tourism potential at the 10th Village International de la Gastronomy in Paris

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris successfully showcased Sri Lanka’s rich culinary heritage, cultural traditions and tourism attractions at the 10th edition of the Village International de la Gastronomy, held at Place de la Concorde in Paris, France from 10 to 13 September 2026.

The participation marked Sri Lanka’s return to this prestigious international gastronomic event after 2018, providing a valuable platform to present Sri Lankan cuisine and culture to a large and diverse French and international audience. The 2026 edition attracted more than 100,000 visitors, with 73 embassies in Paris participating in the event.

The Sri Lankan booth, conducted by Chef Shriyani Perera in collaboration with First Secretary (Commercial) Prasadi Boomawalage of the Embassy, was officially opened by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in France Sugeeshwara Gunaratna on 10 September 2026. The booth remained a point of attraction throughout all four days of the event and attracted considerable interest from visitors. Sri Lankan gastronomy received particularly strong attention, with visitors having the opportunity to discover and taste a variety of traditional dishes and refreshments, including hoppers, kottu, rolls, samosa, wade and ulundu wade, roti, Sri Lankan soft drinks and Ceylon Tea.

Sri Lankan cultural performances were also presented during the four-day event, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the country’s participation. The traditional performances attracted significant attention and appreciation from the crowds, further enhancing the visibility of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage.

During the four days, the close connection between the country’s diverse culinary traditions, cultural heritage and travel experiences were highlighted. The wide outreach generated during the event enabled Sri Lanka to reach new audiences and create greater awareness of the country among visitors interested in gastronomy, culture and tourism.

Ambassador Sugeeshwara Gunaratna today visited the Embassy of Nepal, Paris and signed the book of condolences opened at the Embassy due to the loss of lives and property as a result of the flash floods in Nepal🇳🇵on 26th August 2026. The Ambassador conveyed to Ambassador Sudhir Bhattarai of Nepal, the deepest condolences of President Dissanayake, the Government and people of 🇱🇰.

Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal during this challenging time.
