As part of their daily training routine, firefighters from Red Watch at Suva Fire Station recently conducted a High Angle Rescue Drill to strengthen their rescue capabilities and maintain operational readiness.
High angle rescue refers to rescue operations carried out in situations where ropes and specialized equipment are required to safely access, secure, and recover victims from elevated or difficult to reach locations. These incidents may include rescues from buildings, cliffs, towers, or other challenging environments where there is a significant risk of falling.
Regular drills such as these are essential in ensuring firefighters remain proficient in rope rescue techniques, equipment handling, communication, and teamwork. Training exercises also provide an opportunity to identify and correct mistakes, improve rescue procedures, and build confidence in responding to real life emergencies.
Through continuous training and practical exercises, the National Fire Authority remains committed to enhancing the skills, safety, and preparedness of its firefighters, ensuring they are ready to respond effectively whenever duty calls.
