Kimbibit is one of the 14 woredas of North Shewa zone of Oromiya Regional State.The history of this district traced back to Haile Sellassie era. The present map of the district is however after the down fall of the military government .During this time the district has 29 rural and 2 urban kebeles. According to the population projection of Oromiya Finance and Economic Development Bureau Kimbibit district has the total population of 88,726(44,163 male and 44,563 female). Urban population 15,450(7,470 male and female7,980) ,rural population 73,276(36,694 male and 36,582 female)and the total population of 90,905(45,247 male 45,658 female) Urban population 15,780(7,628 male 8,151 female)Rural population 75,125(37,618 male 37,503 female) in the year 2005/2013 and 2006/2014 respectively. The district’s town, Sheno is 195 km far away from zone capital ,Fitche and 78 km far away from capital city of Ethiopia (Oromiya) Finfinne.

Physical Setting of the District
2.1 Physical Setting
2.1.1 Location:
Physically Kimbibit District is bordered by Aleltu in South, Abichu and Gnea in North West, Jida in West, and Amhara Regional State in East, North-East and South-East. Astronomically the district extends from 90 12’_9032’N Latitudes and 3904’_39033’ Longitudes.
2.1.2 Area:
The total area of the district is about 75,227hec .
2.1.3 Geology of the district
The altitude of the district ranges from 2400-2800m above sea level. Even though the district has no metrological station data from neighboring metrological station reveals that the annual rainfall of the district is about 913 mm and the average annual temperature ranges between 90c-12c0.
2.2 Relief, Drainage and Climate
2.2.1 Relief
The topographic set up of the district consists of mountain, hills and plains. The known highest tips are Albasa, Gutole and Zinjaro Washa 3010m, 2972m and 2481m respectively. The major hills are Mogoro, GaraChatu and Maset. Lay-Kombolcha, Adadi Matto, Manusha and Kerensa are the known plains found in the district.
2.2.2 Drainage
The district has the drainage system characterized by perennial and seasonal rivers.Moye , Gana,Abayi(Gimbi) and Zango area known springs while Chancho, Laga Duba and Chalalaki are the main streams in the district. The district has a total area of 176 km of rivers and streams
2.2.3 Major Rainy Seasons
Spring and summer seasons are the major rainy and productive times of the district.
2.2.4 Climate
The district has an agro-climatic zone of Dega (Badda) altitude ranging from 2620-3020m ASL which is 100% Dega. The annual rainfall varies from 800mm-925mm ranges from 18-20c0.
2.3 Soils
Vertisoil, red brown soil and abolse soils are the dominant in the area.
A. Vertis Soils: are found on flat areas and are characterized by poor drainage, difficult to plough when dry and too much moisture. It is less productive compared to red brown soil.
B. Red brown soils: are found mostly on sloppy areas of the district ,has good drainage and moderately exposed to erosion. This type of soil is productive and suitable for crops such as wheat, barley, beans and peans.
C. Abolse soils: this type of soil is poorly fertile and mostly used for grazing.
2.4 Vegetation and Wild Life
2.4.1 Vegetation
The district is poor in vegetation coverage .Patches of shrubs and bushes can be seen rarely. Remains of indigenous trees are found around Churches. 969 hectares of the district is covered forest by cooperative.
2.4.2 Wild Life
The major wild animals found in the area are Anubis baboon, hyena, leopard, jackal, verves monkey, rabbit, duiker and the like. There is no reserved area of wild life and these wild animals are found scattered in the district.
