Why Neighboring Countries Lack Internal Focus?
Our region has long been plagued by instability, and unfortunately, our neighboring countries have yet to achieve lasting peace. One of the core issues is their lack of internal focus. Rather than prioritizing national development and unity, many of these countries remain fragmented—divided by internal disputes, external influences, and a lack of trust in their own governance systems.
Instead of fostering collaboration and regional integration, these states often lean heavily on foreign interest groups. This reliance undermines their sovereignty and prevents them from addressing their citizens’ real needs. The primary mission of any government should be to solve its people’s problems and respond to national demands. Sadly, in many cases, we do not see genuine progress or purpose toward that mission.
As of the 2025 global population projection, the combined population of our neighboring countries stands at approximately 88.3 million, compared to Ethiopia’s 130 million—around 32% more. This significant demographic advantage reveals the enormous potential Ethiopia holds, not just as a regional market but also as a source of ideas, innovation, and military strength. Without Ethiopia, achieving strong regional integration and security is unthinkable. This is not an opinion—it is a fact.
Unfortunately, some neighboring states attempt to dismiss Ethiopia’s central role with empty rhetoric and unproductive noise. Their disrespectful behavior, including personal attacks on government leaders, reveals not only arrogance but also a lack of diplomatic maturity and ethics.
Despite these challenges, Ethiopia remains committed to regional peace and solidarity. We do not shy away from taking the lead in solving shared problems. Our country has sacrificed much—blood, lives, and resources—for the stability of the region. These contributions cannot be erased or undermined by political posturing or irresponsible statements.
