Biography of Dr. Abdiwasa

Abdiwasa Abdilahi Bade (PhD) was born in Jigjiga the capital city of Somali Regional State of Ethiopia and took his primary and intermediate school and he took his degree and he has a PhD in Political Science from Addis Ababa University. He did his first and second degrees also in Addis Ababa University in Political Science and International Relations respectively. He also had done his second MA in International Law from the University of Amsterdam. Now he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and taught different courses focusing on international relations, including the Horn of African Politics, government and politics in Africa, political economy of Africa, human rights and governance, and international law. He also supervised both graduate and undergraduate students on a number of issues varying from local Ethiopian politics to international issues such as terrorism, piracy, small arms trafficking and refugee issues. Some of His publications include “the Somali region of Ethiopia: local conflict and regional security”, published by the Institute for Security Studies, Pretoria, South Africa in 2008; “Human Security in Somali region of Ethiopia after 1991”, Africa Peace and Conflict Journal, Volume 8 Number 1 March 2015 and “the nexus between Informal cross Border Trade (ICBT) and Cross Border Security Governance (CBSG) ‘focusing on the Somali region of Ethiopia, in collaboration with Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA). He actively participated at different capacities beyond in the academic engagements in which he currently is working on. He has served as a political economy and conflict advisor to Adam Smith International, Department of Foreign Development (DfID), served as a Member of Parliament (MP) of Ethiopia. Also served as graduate attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. Moreover, he was an Academic Vice President of Jigjiga University in the Somali region of Ethiopia.
In 2007, he also served as Associate Dean in the School of Journalism, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He has been to Rhodes, Paris and Columbia universities where he presented papers. He has also been to Brown University for summer school and also did his short postdoctoral at Bergen University.
