Dessie (also spelled Dese or Dessye) is a historic and vibrant city in north-central Ethiopia. It is both a city and a woreda, strategically located on the paved Addis Ababa–Asmara highway in the Debub Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region. With coordinates 11°8′N 39°38′E and an elevation ranging from 2,470 to 2,550 meters above sea

Dessie has long been an important commercial and administrative hub in Ethiopia. The city has had postal services since the 1920s and telephone service from at least 1954. By 1963, a diesel-powered electric station was established, providing power to both Dessie and the nearby industrial city of Kombolcha. Today, Dessie continues to expand, with improved infrastructure, businesses, and educational institutions playing a key role in its growth.
