On May 7 & 8, 2026, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and SEED consortium partners, successfully hosted the SEED Learning Summit 2026 in Addis Ababa.

Reflecting on the program's journey, Dr. Hassan Hussein, (CEO, EDI) noted that in just two and a half years, the Sustainable Employment through Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) program has reached more than 1.3 million young people and enabled over 457,000 to secure dignified and fulfilling work.

The summit featured dynamic panel discussions, research presentations, and an exhibition showcasing entrepreneurs' success journeys.

A key focus was the newly approved National Entrepreneurship Development Policy and the draft Entrepreneurship Proclamation, designed to reduce bureaucratic barriers.

Highlighting the event's spirit, Mefthe Tadesse (Country Director, Mastercard Foundation) stated: “This is a celebration of our progress and also a reaffirmation of our commitment to the future.”

The scale of the program's financial and institutional support is substantial, with over 5 billion ETB in uncollateralized loans disbursed and more than 100 TVTs supported across the country. Guided by these milestones, we remain dedicated to enabling young people and being part of shaping Ethiopia's entrepreneurial future.

iDisrupt_Hub!

Inaugurated on May 18, 2026, in Addis Ababa, this premier platform is designed as a hub of hubs, unifying the startup ecosystem to fast-track high-potential ventures from idea to scale.

This hub was built in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation through the SEED program. Beyond supporting startups, a core objective of iDisruptHub is to serve as a model incubation space that TVTs can mimic and replicate to set up their very own localized entrepreneurship incubation centers!

Speaking at the launch, Minister Muferihat Kamil highlighted how the hub turns policy into practice, unlocking local entrepreneurial potential.

EDI CEO Hassan Hussein (PhD) emphasized its dedication to enabling young people and removing barriers for impactful businesses.

What makes iDisruptHub different?

✅Policy-to-Practice Bridge: Translating national strategies into real opportunities.

✅TVT Blueprint: Acting as a master model for TVTs to scale entrepreneurship education.

✅Behavioral-Driven Support: Tailored specifically to founder mindsets.
End-to-End Growth: Offering incubation, seed funding, and venture acceleration.

✅Market Access: Featuring investment matchmaking and a unique procurement sandbox.

Together, we are spearheading a new era of global-ready innovation, supporting sustainable, scalable ventures across Ethiopia!

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) has achieved significant progress in its mission to strengthen vocational education, with its safeguarding initiative now covering 78% of its national target.

In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation through the SEED program, and in collaboration with Light for the World, EDI successfully reached 78 TVT institutions following a second Training of Trainers (ToT) on Safeguarding and Inclusion held in Addis Ababa.

This initiative has now equipped 78% of its 100-institution target with specialized focal persons. These professionals are prepared to integrate safeguarding principles into institutional codes of conduct, guaranteeing that safety and equity become operational realities for all young people.

By creating rigorously safe and inclusive environments, EDI and its partners support the opportunity for every student including young women and disadvantaged groups to thrive.

This ongoing partnership continues to strengthen the standardization of accountability and social responsibility across Ethiopia’s TVT sector, paving the way for dignified and fulfilling work.
