🌍 We welcomed a delegation from the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission- Commission Sous-Régionale des Pêches (CSRP) to EFCA headquarters in Vigo for a coordination meeting headed by the Permanent Secretary of the CSRP.

As key partners under the West Africa Sustainable Ocean Programme (WASOP), EFCA and CSRP are working together to strengthen fisheries governance and monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) capacities across West Africa, supporting the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

During the visit, the delegation also explored EFCA’s Coordination Centre and visited the Port of Vigo, exchanging experiences on fisheries control operations and discussing further cooperation and capacity development under WASOP.

Joint patrols are under way across the Baltic Sea

Frontex is leading a joint maritime operation supporting Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland until the end of October.

The main task is border surveillance at sea, using aircraft and vessels to keep a clear picture of what is happening across the region.

The operation also assists search and rescue during surveillance, supports work against cross-border crime, and supports national authorities carrying out coast guard functions together with European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) supporting fisheries control and marine pollution response.

📍 Black Sea, Romania

The Tomis 2026 Maritime Multipurpose Exercise (MME) was held as part of the Multipurpose Maritime Operation (MMO) Western Black Sea 2026, bringing together EU agencies and national authorities from Romania and Bulgaria to strengthen cooperation at sea.

Led by Frontex, in cooperation with the European Maritime Safety Agency and EFCA, the exercise focused on joint action, information sharing and interoperability across different maritime domains.

Over two days of operations, participants tested coordinated responses to maritime security incidents, search and rescue scenarios, pollution events and fisheries control activities.

We contributed our fisheries control expertise, supporting situational awareness and operational readiness in the Black Sea while reinforcing the collaborative approach promoted through the MMO framework.

Strengthening in the field of Maritime Border Control 🇪🇺

In June 2026, the Portuguese 🇵🇹 GNR - Guarda Nacional Republicana and GNR - Unidade de Controlo Costeiro e de Fronteiras, its Border and Coastal Control Unit (UCCF), and the Lisbon Coastal Control Detachment (DCC Lisboa), successfully hosted its first-ever Programme event: "Maritime Border Control“.

The Programme is led by EFCA in cooperation with European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency

During a 3-day programme, exchange participants from Croatia 🇭🇷 and Poland 🇵🇱, alongside , fully integrated with the GNR personnel. Together, they shared vital operational knowledge and best practices in maritime surveillance, visited the Operational Command and Control Centre (CCCO/SIVICC) and took part in various maritime patrols. ⚓

🚨 A true highlight occurred on the second day: during an operational boat deployment, the team faced a real-life emergency scenario and acted as first responders to assist a sailing boat in distress until the ISN Peniche station unit arrived.

This exchange highlighted the continuous need to strengthen international operational cooperation and grow the network of contacts to enhance maritime security. 🌊
