🚨Friendly heads up for our Apopka Birding Park community🚨

Mowing is expected tomorrow, and we want to reassure everyone that careful steps have been taken to protect the park’s wildlife. Volunteers of the Apopka Birding Park Working Group will be there to ensure sparrow habitat is preserved.

In addition, gopher tortoise burrows have been identified and clearly marked so they will not be mowed. This is the result of a lot of thoughtful planning and volunteer effort.

The purpose of mowing is to support long-term habitat health by helping manage invasive cogon grass, making it easier to treat in the spring.

We encourage you to enjoy the park before mowing.

Thank you for your attention! 🐦

Orange Audubon is fundraising to be able to start construction on our nature center. We are moving forward to select our building contractor, in close association with our architectural firm, Little Diversified Architectural Consulting. One of the competing contractors brought all his "subs" to see the project so they could make their bids and then the contractor can make its bid to us. Exciting! Everyone loves that we will be converting the old cement block building into a LEED Gold nature center.

We can use your help to move forward. Here is the donate button. Thank you! https://orangeaudubonfl.org/new-oas-nature-center/?donation_amount=Orange%20Audubon%20Nature%20Center

Oh, and Davey Tree dropped off ground up tree clippings for us to use as mulch in Alan's entry landscape.

Have you wondered what was going on by the parking lot to the right of the Wildlife Drive entrance?

Orange Audubon has a long-term lease on this City of Apopka property, that was an old greenhouse nursery, and is developing it as the Apopka Birding Park.

The green building that you see across the canal was a truck repair shop used by the nurseryman and other farmers in the area.

Orange Audubon engaged a wonderful architectural firm to design its nature center renovating the building.

Our non-profit is fundraising to be able to start construction by this summer. Can you help?

Thank you to FastSigns Apopka for donating the sign as well as the new sign on the yellow gate.

The QR code on the sign goes to the nature center page where you can donate. https://orangeaudubonfl.org/new-oas-nature-center/?donation_amount=Orange%20Audubon%20Nature%20Center

Thanks for your help to make this project happen as a place for the community to appreciate nature and for upland animals to survive.

This past Saturday’s workday at Apopka Birding Park focused on improving water features during Orange Audubon’s 8th workday. The restoration progress is really starting to show!

We want to recognize the hard work that our volunteers have been putting in towards the Apopka Birding Park. Thank you to everyone who has helped out in one way or another!

Join us next time on February 28th @ 9am!

Thank you Faruk Bagdah!
