New milestone for migration governance in Egypt crossed ✅

Yesterday under the framework of our CONMIGO project and in close cooperation with the NCCPIM&TIP, the European Union in Egypt, and the National Center for Judicial Studies, we concluded the 3-day workshop for Judges tackling the issue of combating human trafficking and smuggling in persons through knowledge sharing and capacity building.

This marks the 10th workshop to be held in the field of justice in the framework of the CONMIGO project, bringing the total number of judges and prosecutors trained by this program alone to 206!

Knowing that the best results are achieved when we share lessons learned, the workshop was able to leverage Spain’s expertise in migration governance by having Magistrate Judges of the Spanish Ministry of Justice Silvia Cantón, and Lorena Cárdenas Asensio give sessions on the legal frameworks of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants and a number of other topics on this issue.

Building successful human trafficking responses using digital evidence✔️

Today, the Spanish Cooperation in close cooperation with the NCCIPIM&TIP, European Union in Egypt, and the National Center for Judicial Studies, the CONMIGO project, launched the workshop for judges to promote knowledge-sharing with experts.

The principal objective is to support building capacities of judges in handling cases of crimes of human trafficking and smuggling of migrants.

“The partnership with Spain on migration governance is very crucial, as Egypt is committed to leveraging Spain’s experience and lessons learned on approaching migration not just from a security approach, but from a development approach,” Ms. Reem Zahran, Minister Plenipotentiary of the NCCIPM&TIP, said.

في اطار تعزيز الاستجابة لتحديات الهجرة في مصر لتدريب المدعين العامين كجزء من مشروع CONMIGO مع خبراء إسبان، والذي تم عقده بحضور سعادة السفير الفارو إيرانزو غوتيريز والسفيرة نائلة جبر ، رئيسة NCCPIMandTIP.
ويمثل هذا علامة فارقة مهمة في إدارة الهجرة في مصر ، والتي تهدف إلى إطلاق تحولات منهجية طويلة الأجل.

Here's a quick wrap-up of the training for Egyptian prosecutors with Spanish experts, as part of the CONMIGO project and funded by the European Union in Egypt , which was held in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Alvaro Iranzo Gutiérrez and Ambassador Naela Gabr, chairperson of the NCCPIMandTIP.

This marks a significant milestone for migration governance in Egypt, aimed to trigger long-term systemic transformations.

مشاركة الخبرة لا تقتصر فقط على مشاركة المعرفة بل يمكن ايضا تعزيز الحلول المحلية والملكية المحلية. اليوم ، اختتمنا ورشة العمل التدريبية الوطنية لمفتشي العمل في المنيا كجزء من مشروع CONMIGO ، بتمويل من EU in Egypt ، في التعاون مع NCCPIMandTIP و ILO Egypt و Ministry of Manpower، لتعزيز قدرة مفتشي العمل على تهريب المهاجرين والاتجار بالبشر.
وركز التدريب على فهم الأطر القانونية الدولية والوطنية الرئيسية ، وإحالة الضحايا ومساعدة ضحايا الاتجار بالأشخاص والمهاجرين ، وتقديم دراسات حالة عملية للتنفيذ ، ومعالجة دور التوعية الذي يقوم به مفتش العمل.

Sharing expertise is not limited to the knowledge shared, but can also promote home-grown solutions and local ownership. Today, we concluded the national training workshop for labor inspectors in Minya as part of the CONMIGO project, funded by the European Union in Egypt, in collaboration with The National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons, the International Labour Organization ILO Cairo منظمة العمل الدولية بالقاهرة and The Ministry of Manpower in Egypt, to strengthen the capacity of labor inspectors on smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons.

The training focused on understanding key international and national legal frameworks, the referral of victims and assistance to victims of trafficking in persons and migrants, providing practical case studies for implementation, and addressing the awareness-raising role of the labor inspector.
