🌊Silent Danger Threatening Our Coral Reefs: The Spiny Starfish ⚠️

This creature may look beautiful, but it poses a real threat to the ecological balance.

1️⃣ What is a Spiny Starfish? 🧐

It is a marine mollusk whose body is covered in long, sharp spines containing defensive toxins. It is characterized by its numerous arms (up to 21) and its color, which tends towards purple or greenish-gray.

2️⃣ Why is it a threat to coral reefs? 🪸⚠️ This creature is not a good neighbor! The Spiny Starfish feeds exclusively on the hard tissues of coral.

It can devour vast areas of coral in record time.

When the Spiny Starfish multiplies excessively, it destroys vast areas of coral reefs, turning them into dead, white skeletons and forcing the fish that live there to leave.

3️⃣ How to deal with it if you find it? 🚫✋

The Golden Rule: Don't touch it and don't try to kill it yourself!

Avoid touching it: Its spines are poisonous and extremely painful, and can cause serious infections.

Don't cut it: If you try to cut it with a knife, each piece may regenerate into a new starfish! (It regenerates itself).

Leave it where it is: Handling this creature requires specialists and special tools to ensure its safe and controlled disposal.

Precise location: (Name of dive site or GPS coordinates if available). North - South

Depth: What is the approximate depth at which you found it? Approximate number: (Just one, or scattered groups?)

Photo: If possible, take a photo without getting too close.

هذا الكائن قد يبدو جميلاً لكنه يشكل تهديداً حقيقياً على التوازن البيئي.
​1️⃣ ما هو نجم البحر الشوكي؟ 🧐
​هو حيوان بحري من الرخويات، يتميز بجسم مغطى بأشواك طويلة وحادة تحتوي على سموم دفاعية. يمتلك عدداً كبيراً من الأذرع (قد يصل لـ 21 ذراعاً) ولوناً يميل للأرجواني أو الرمادي المخضر.
​2️⃣ لماذا يمثل خطراً على الشعاب المرجانية؟ 🪸⚠️
​هذا الكائن ليس "جاراً طيباً"! يتغذى نجم البحر الشوكي حصرياً على أنسجة المرجان الصلبة.
​بإمكانه التهام مساحات واسعة من المرجان في وقت قياسي.
​عند حدوث "تكاثر مفرط" في أعداده، يمكنه تدمير مساحات شاسعة من الشعاب، مما يحولها إلى هياكل بيضاء ميتة ويطرد الأسماك التي تعيش فيها.
​3️⃣ كيف تتعامل معه إذا وجدته؟ 🚫✋
​القاعدة الذهبية: لا تلمسه ولا تحاول قتله بنفسك!
​تجنب اللمس: أشواكه سامة ومؤلمة جداً وقد تسبب التهابات شديدة.
​لا تقطعه: إذا حاولت تقطيعه بسكين، فكل قطعة قد تنمو لتصبح نجم بحر جديداً! (تجدد ذاتي).
​اتركه في مكانه: التعامل مع هذا الكائن يتطلب متخصصين وأدوات معينة لضمان التخلص منه بشكل آمن ومدروس.

Anexceptional and wonderful event,😍🫶🥰🪸🔱💪 a day to clean the seabed, coral reefs, and sandy beach at the Souk El Bahr diving site 🪸🔱😍

A team of professional divers cleaned the coral reefs and seabed, while another team on the beach cleaned the sand at the same time.
A wonderful effort, great work, and an exceptional day full of enthusiasm and activity 😍🫶👌

, Atlantik Diving Center , Coral's future Organization , and some volunteers from Poland we came together to clean our beautiful coastline and protect our precious marine life. 🐢🐠🪸🔱❤️

فريق من الغواصين المحترفين ينظفون الشعاب المرجانية وقاع البحر وفريق اخر علي الشاطيء ينظف الرمل في نفس ذات الوقت .
مجهود رائع وعمل عظيم ويوم استثنائي حافل بالحماس والنشاط 😍🫶👌

we were able to clean a very large part of the beach area, which also has sea turtle nesting areas in the Marsa Mubarak area.🐢😍🥰

The Impact of Waste on Marine Life
1. Turtles:🔱🌊
Swallow plastic bags (mistaking them for jellyfish) → Intestinal blockage → Slow death
Entangled in discarded plastic bags → Drowning or amputating limbs

2. Coral:🪸🌊🔱
- Plastic waste blocks sunlight → Prevents photosynthesis → Coral bleaches and dies.
- Chemicals from waste (such as battery residue) → Poisons the water → Destroys the entire ecosystem.
Please join us for this event. We want to clean up as much of the beach as possible today.
