Fayoum in the spotlight of the Financial Times
has once again captured international attention, with a new feature in the Financial Times exploring the remarkable landscapes, heritage and living traditions of the Fayoum Oasis.
In her article, “Face to face with ancient Egypt,” journalist Sophy Roberts takes readers on a journey through Fayoum — from the shores of Lake Qarun and the deserts of Wadi El Hitan and Wadi El Rayan, to the ancient temples of Qasr El-Sagha and Soknopaiou Nesos, the monasteries of the Western Desert, and the agricultural landscapes and villages that continue to give Fayoum its distinctive character. The article offers a fascinating perspective on Fayoum not simply as a destination filled with archaeological treasures, but as a living cultural landscape, where ancient irrigation systems, agriculture, traditional crafts, food, nature and local communities remain part of the story.
