📚 UNESCO is proud to contribute to Egypt’s ongoing education transformation journey and to support national efforts toward building a more inclusive, future-ready, and resilient education system.

Over the past two years, UNESCO — in close collaboration with the Education Policy Section at UNESCO Headquarters (HQ/ED/PLS/EDP) — has played an important role in supporting key education planning and reform processes in Egypt through:

✨ Technical support for the development of Egypt’s Education Sector Plan (ESP) 2023–2027
✨ Support to the Enabling Factors Analysis and Partnership Compact processes within the framework of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE)
✨ Facilitating policy dialogue and strategic planning discussions with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education and partners
✨ Supporting evidence-based planning, operational development, and system strengthening efforts

Today’s discussions on foundational learning, future-forward skills, governance, inclusion, and digital transformation reaffirm the importance of strong partnerships and long-term strategic vision in achieving sustainable education reform 🌍

UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo Celebrates a New Member of UNESCO's ASPnet 🎉🌍

The UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo is pleased to announce that Oasis International School has officially joined the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) 🏫✨, a global community of educational institutions committed to advancing UNESCO’s vision and values.

At the heart of UNESCO’s work lies a powerful conviction that lasting peace must be built through education, science, culture, and the free exchange of knowledge 📚🕊️, grounded in the principles of human dignity, equality, mutual understanding, respect for diversity, and international solidarity 🤝🌐. In this context, UNESCO leads global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) 🎯, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all 👩‍🏫📖, recognizing education as a fundamental human right and a key driver of sustainable development, social progress, and economic growth.

Established in 1953, the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) 🌍🏫 brings together schools committed to putting these global agendas into practice at classroom level. Today, ASPnet connects around 10,000 schools across more than 170 countries 🌎, fostering collaboration, innovation, under key thematic areas education for sustainable development, living heritage, peace education, and global citizenship among learners and educators.

In Egypt, ASPnet continues to grow steadily, with around 300 members representing schools across the country actively engaged in advancing UNESCO’s mission by integrating its themes such as climate change education, cultural heritage, environmental education, peace education into national curricula and teaching and learning culture, contributing to both national and global educational priorities.

✨ Empowering communities through Community Learning Centres (CLCs)

In Aswan, our collaboration with Om Habibeh Foundation demonstrates how Community Learning Centres can serve as inclusive spaces that respond to community needs and support sustainable livelihoods 🌍

Through an integrated approach combining community cohesion 🤝, skills development 💡, and economic empowerment 💼, the initiative has provided pathways for individuals — particularly women — to build confidence, acquire relevant skills, and access new opportunities.

🔹 1,500 women reached directly over the past two years
🔹 Around 5,000 people reached indirectly through families and communities 🌱
🔹 453 participants engaged in this phase

From psychosocial support and communication skills 🤍… to ICT 💻, entrepreneurship 📈, and vocational training 🧵, CLCs have enabled a progressive journey from social to economic empowerment.

Community Learning Centres continue to play a key role as accessible and trusted hubs for lifelong learning, inclusion, and community transformation ✨

من خلال نهج متكامل يجمع بين التماسك المجتمعي 🤝، وتنميةالمهارات 💡، والتمكين الاقتصادي 💼، وفرت المبادرة مساراتحقيقية للأفراد — وخاصة النساء — لبناء الثقة، واكتساب مهاراتملائمة، والوصول إلى فرص جديدة.

🔹 الوصول إلى 1500 سيدة بشكل مباشر خلال العامين الماضيين
🔹 وصول الأثر إلى حوالي 5000 مستفيد بشكل غير مباشر من خلال الأسر والمجتمع 🌱
🔹 مشاركة 453 مستفيدًا في هذه المرحلة

من جلسات الدعم النفسي والاجتماعي ومهارات التواصل 🤍… إلىالتدريب على تكنولوجيا المعلومات 💻، وريادة الأعمال 📈، والتدريبالمهني 🧵، أسهمت مراكز التعلم المجتمعي في دعم رحلة متكاملة منالتمكين الاجتماعي إلى التمكين الاقتصادي.

🌿 Environmental Management System (EMS) 🌿

UNESCO Cairo Office held an Environmental Management System (EMS) coordination meeting with staff members, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability, responsible resource use, and greener workplace practices.

The meeting, coordinated by Dr. Abdelaziz Zaki, brought together the UNESCO Cairo Greening Team and colleagues from different units to review key environmental priorities, including:

🔹 Energy consumption (air conditioning, electricity, office vehicles)
🔹 Water use for drinking, cleaning, and car washing
🔹 Greening and maintaining office spaces

✅ Key agreed actions include:

· Optimizing air-conditioning use by setting room temperature regulators to 25°C, limiting active chillers, closing office doors during AC use, and shutting down systems at 4:30 p.m.

· Reading electricity meters on a weekly basis to monitor and reduce consumption.

· Rationalizing water use in kitchens, restrooms, and vehicle washing, alongside regular maintenance of water and electric sensors.

· Strengthening staff awareness on reducing paper use, limiting printing, sustainable catering, and responsible daily behaviors such as switching off lights, computers, and AC units.

· Ensuring efficient irrigation systems for green areas.

🌍 Sustainability is a shared responsibility. Through collective effort and everyday actions, UNESCO Cairo Office continues to align with UNESCO’s values for environmental protection and climate responsibility.

🎥 Voices from the AI Literacy Training – Round 2

Building on the success of the first session, the second training in our AI Literacy Series for Civil Servants—implemented by UNESCO in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and funded by the European Union—brought renewed energy, deeper discussions, and practical insights on the responsible use of AI in the public sector.
Through engaging exchanges and powerful testimonies, participants reflected on how AI can support their daily work while upholding ethical standards and public trust.

خطوة جديدة نحو حكومة رقمية أكثر وعيًا!
انطلقت الجولة الثانية من برنامج تدريب الذكاء الاصطناعي لموظفي القطاع العام، الذي تنفذه اليونسكو بالتعاون مع وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات وبدعم من الاتحاد الأوروبي. وقد شهدت هذه الجولة نقاشات معمّقة حول التطبيقات العملية للاستخدام المسؤول للذكاء الاصطناعي داخل الجهات الحكومية.

Strengthening Collaboration Across the UN in Egypt

Today, UNESCO Cairo had the pleasure of welcoming Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator, for a meaningful visit to the Office.

The visit provided a valuable moment to exchange on our ongoing work, reflect on shared priorities, and reinforce collaboration in support of national and regional goals. Through open and engaging discussions with colleagues, the importance of partnership and collective action across the UN system was at the heart of the dialogue.

We thank her for the insightful exchange and continued support to UNESCO Cairo Office’s mission.

Advancing AI Skills in the Public Sector

Building AI literacy is key to unlocking the full potential of digital transformation in the public sector. For this reason, UNESCO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and with funding from the European Union, has launched an AI Literacy Training Series for Civil Servants to strengthen the responsible use of AI in Egypt’s public sector.

The first training, delivered over two days, brought together around 30 civil servants from 7 different ministries. Participants gained practical knowledge to better understand AI, assess its risks and opportunities, and apply it more effectively in their daily work. From improving service delivery to supporting informed decision-making, they are now better equipped to navigate the growing role of AI in government.

Through this initiative, UNESCO is providing technical assistance and capacity-building support to advance ethical and effective AI adoption across government institutions.

By building foundational knowledge on AI, ethics, and governance, this initiative supports the implementation of Egypt’s AI Readiness Assessment (RAM) and promotes a human-centered and responsible approach to AI.

تعزيز مهارات الذكاء الاصطناعي في القطاع العام

يُعدّ تعزيز الإلمام بأساسيات الذكاء الاصطناعي خطوة أساسية لتحقيق الاستفادة الكاملة من التحول الرقمي في القطاع العام. وفي هذا الإطار، أطلقت اليونسكو، بالتعاون مع وزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات وبدعم من الاتحاد الأوروبي، سلسلة تدريبات لموظفي الخدمة المدنية تهدف إلى تعزيز الاستخدام المسؤول والفعّال للذكاء الاصطناعي في مصر.

وشهدت أولى هذه التدريبات، التي عُقدت على مدار يومين، مشاركة نحو 30 موظفًا حكوميًا من 7 وزارات مختلفة. وقد أتاح التدريب للمشاركين فرصة اكتساب فهم عملي للذكاء الاصطناعي، بما يشمل التعرف على فرصه وتحدياته، وتطبيقاته في بيئة العمل. ويسهم ذلك في دعم تحسين الخدمات العامة وتعزيز اتخاذ قرارات مبنية على أسس سليمة، في ظل تزايد دور الذكاء الاصطناعي في العمل الحكومي.

ومن خلال هذه المبادرة، تواصل اليونسكو تقديم الدعم الفني وبناء القدرات لتعزيز تبنّي الذكاء الاصطناعي بشكل أخلاقي وفعّال داخل المؤسسات الحكومية، بما يدعم تنفيذ تقييم جاهزية الذكاء الاصطناعي في مصر ويعزز نهجًا يضع الإنسان في صميم تطوير واستخدام هذه التقنيات.
