MGS belongs to the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries [NIOF], which is one of eleven national research centers and institutions that are affiliated directly to the
Ministry of State for Scientific Research of Egypt. NIOF is the oldest research institute devoted to marine research in the Middle East, as it established in the early twentieth century.
