Check out the great progress crews are making on new Army Family Housing being built in the Wetzel Housing Area in Baumholder!

Construction is ongoing on more than 100 new townhomes along with associated infrastructure, new playgrounds and a dog park. The work is being done through three active contracts. Europe District is managing the AFH construction in close coordination with U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz and our German construction partners.

It is part of hundreds of millions of dollars in facilities and infrastructure that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is delivering for Baumholder Military Community to support the quality of life of families overseas.

Is there anything more fun than building catapults with engineers? Probably not!

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District employees visited Aukamm Elementary School in Wiesbaden, Germany on May 27 and spent the day teaching students about simple machines and the various career fields within USACE.

The day’s lesson plan was a collaboration between Europe District and Aukamm Elementary's AAPS teacher, Mrs. Fernandez Martell. Europe District employees talked about their specific jobs and about the different USACE missions. Afterwards, they gave a short lesson on simple machines and helped students build catapults out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands, putting their new knowledge of levers into practice.

Today marks the anniversary of the Allied landings at Normandy.

Engineer troops provided landing support for more than 50,000 men and well over 4,000 vehicles. Engineers composed 25 percent of the force the Allies landed.

Please join us as we pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in defense of global peace and security. The threats have changed, but the same elite warfighting resolve that turned the tide in 1944 defends global security today.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District was proud to host Ukraine’s State Special Transport Service in Germany for a training workshop in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

This is the second in a series of training workshops scheduled for SSTS officers in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between the SSTS and the USACE North Atlantic Division signed in July 2025.

The goal of this training was to empower Ukraine to be able to better lead aspects of its own recovery by familiarize familiarizing SSTS representatives with advanced approaches to implementing large-scale infrastructure projects that will support the recovery and protection of critical infrastructure of Ukraine. This initiative involves many partners, including U.S. Army Europe and Africa, Security Assistance Group – Ukraine, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), and other organizations.
