On September 13, three special sites in Rothenburg ob der Tauber will offer guided tours: Wildbad, Judengasse and St. James’ Church
On September 13, 2026, three historic monuments in Rothenburg ob der Tauber will take part in Tag des Offenen Denkmals. At St. James’ Church, Dr. Oliver Gußmann will explore the networks of people from crafts, art and science that were essential to creating – and preserving – such a monumental building. At Judengasse 10, visitors can discover how a historic building has become a hub for important aspects of modern life – living, working and culture. Wildbad reveals its role as an intersection of landscape, technology and people’s need for recreation.
1. St. James’ Church as a Network Church
St. James’ Church stands at the heart of both historic and modern routes. These once included pilgrimage routes leading to the Holy Blood relic, while today pilgrims follow footpaths from the hub of Rothenburg to Santiago de Compostela.
The guided tour begins at 3 p.m. and lasts 45 minutes.

2. Living, Working and Events in a Historic Monument
The building at Judengasse 10 connects the late Middle Ages with the present day. During its restoration, numerous historic elements were uncovered or preserved, including the mikveh and the historic timber chamber (Bohlenstube).
Guided tours start at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

3. Wildbad Infrastructure: Stables, Water, Electricity & Paths
How did a large spa and guest house actually operate more than 120 years ago? Where did its electricity, water, food and fuel come from?
As part of this year’s Open Monument Day theme, Wildbad invites visitors on a special journey of discovery into the hidden networks behind a historic building.
