Click "About" for FRG email information. We are the world’s premier Airborne Cavalry Squadron, the eyes and ears of the 173rd, ready for war on the frontier of freedom. We are a team of disciplined professionals, who train hard, fight hard, and use common sense to accomplish the mission and win with honor. The 91st Cavalry Regiment traces its lineage back to 1928 in the 1st Armored Cav Troop. In 1

941, the unit was re-designated Troop A, 91st Reconnaissance Squadron, and later was expanded to a Squadron and re-designated the 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. During World War II, it served as the Cavalry Squadron for Patton’s II Corps, and participated in the Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley campaigns where it earned the motto “Alert.” It also earned the French Croix de Guerre with Palms for actions with the 88th ID at the Battle of Gagliano. The 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron has one Medal of Honor winner, SGT Gerry H. Kisters, for his actions near Gagliano, Sicily, on 31 July 1943. The Squadron was deactivated at the conclusion of WWII. On 6 June 2006, the 1st Squadron (Airborne), 91st Cavalry was reactivated in Schweinfurt, Germany on May 2007. The 1st Squadron (Airborne), 91st Cavalry deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII from The Squadron served a second Afghanistan deployment in support and Operation Enduring Freedom X from December 2009 to November 2010, conducting counterinsurgency operations in southern Logar Province and a major gateway to the nation’s capital in Kabul. Paratroopers of 1-91 Cavalry Regiment were called upon again to return to Logar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XII-XIII from June 2012 to March 2013. Beginning in June 2014, 1-91 CAV deployed to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve to ensure multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to the NATO Alliance. Beginning in March 2015 until June 2015, 1-91 CAV once again conducted decentralized operations across the European theater in four countries simultaneously. Anvil Troop deployed to Estonia and Latvia in support of Atlantic Resolve-North. The Squadron Headquarters, Bulldog Troop, and Darkhorse Troop deployed to Ukraine to train the newly formed National Guard of Ukraine to promote the sovereignty and stability of Ukraine at the request of its government. In July 2016, 1-91 CAV participated in a joint multinational exercise, Anakonda 16, taking place throughout Poland. Anakonda 16 tested the ability, readiness and interoperability of the Polish Armed Forces with Allies and partners while conducting a joint defensive operation on a large scale. Late 2016 and early 2017, the Squadron was deployed in three different countries. North to Norway, West to Portugal and East in Turkey, demonstrating the ability of 1-91 CAV to rapidly deploy ensuring interoperability and opening doors for combined training.
