Die "Bonner Konferenz für Entwicklungspolitik" wurde von der Landesregierung Nordrhein-Westfalen im Jahr 2007 ins Leben gerufen und ist Bestandteil der 2007 beschlossenen entwicklungspolitischen Leitlinien der Landesregierung. Nach der Ersten Konferenz im November 2007 war auch die Zweite Konferenz im August 2009 mit prominenten Gästen wie Bundespräsident Horst Köhler und S.M. König Otumfuo Tutu I
I aus Ghana sowie über 600 Teilnehmern aus dem In- und Ausland ein großer Erfolg. Januar 2012 findet nun die 3. Bonner Konferenz für Entwicklungspolitik statt. Sie verbindet die Themen Nachhaltigkeit und Entwicklungspolitik miteinander. Ziel ist es, unter dem Titel „Globale Lebensstile – Neue Wege für die Entwicklungspolitik“ die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Lebensstilen und der Entwicklung im Süden zu beleuchten und Synergien aus dem Bereich der Nachhaltigkeit mit Erkenntnissen aus der Entwicklungspolitik zu verknüpfen. Mit diesem innovativen Ansatz verbindet die internationale Konferenz die zentralen Themen Nachhaltigkeit und Entwicklung. Die Ergebnisse sollen einen Beitrag für die Fortschreibung der MDGs und des Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurses im Rahmen des Rio-Folgeprozesses (Rio+20) leisten. Auch die neue "Eine-Welt-Strategie des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen", die zur Zeit in einem Open Government Prozess erarbeitet wird, wird auf der Konferenz eine Rolle spielen. In 2007, the government of North Rhine-Westphalia launched the "Bonn Conference on International Development Policy". The conference takes place in Bonn regularly and picks up the current discourse on international development policy. This unique format enables North Rhine-Westphalia to provide a clear signal of its commitment to international development cooperation. Like the first conference in November 2007, the second conference in August 2009 was an outstanding success. With high-ranking guests such as Federal President Horst Köhler and HM King Otumfuo Tutu II from Ghana, as well as around 600 local and international participants, the interest in the country's only international development conference was huge. Soon the 3rd Bonn Conference on International Development Policy will be held at the World Conference Center Bonn on 30 and 31 January 2012. Under the title "Global lifestyles - new pathways for development policy", the forthcoming international conference will focus on the connection between lifestyles and consumption habits in the rich industrial and service-based nations and development in the countries of the South. As the first significant conference on development policy for 2012, the 3rd Bonn Conference on International Development Policy will be the prelude to a major year of conferences and will bring together the core themes of the Rio Conference: sustainability and development. The results are intended to contribute to continuing the Millennium Development Goals and the discourse on sustainability as part of the Rio+20 process. The new "One World Strategy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia", currently being developed as part of an Open Government Process, will also play a part in the Conference.
