Education is an important and growing part of the New Zealand–Germany relationship. 🤝🇳🇿 🇩🇪

Ambassador Jane Coombs and Olga Elli (Associate Director of Engagement Europe, Education New Zealand) recently visited Whitecliffe University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, formerly the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and now part of the Whitecliffe Global Group.

The visit focused on Whitecliffe’s plans to expand New Zealand education offerings in Berlin, strengthen connections with its campuses in New Zealand, and develop dual degree programmes and increased student mobility to support deeper educational and cultural exchange. 🌍📚✨

“Houston, we have no problem”: at air show, Ambassador Jane Coombs proved she can safely land an airplane in the flight simulator!👩‍✈️

The ambassador visited ILA Berlin, one of Europe’s largest aerospace trade shows, together with delegates of the New Zealand Space Agency and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

New Zealand has one of the fastest growing space sectors in the world, and is the third most frequent launcher of orbital rockets globally. 🚀

At ILA, the delegation got a glimpse of German and European space innovation at the Space Pavilion and met with partners and stakeholders across politics, industry, and science. 🌗

Today is World Oceans Day 🌊

As a Pacific nation, New Zealand is deeply connected to the ocean (moana).
Our exclusive economic zone is one of the largest in the world, covering an area more than 15 times our landmass.

The seafood sector generates around NZD 5 billion in economic output each year and supports communities across the country. 🐟

Our oceans connect us to each other and to the rest of the world, including Germany. New Zealand and Germany also work together on ocean and climate research in Antarctica, contributing to a deeper understanding of our oceans.

A special moment with tenor Pene Pati 🎬

Following our recent screening of Tenor: My Name is Pati, we sat down for a short conversation with Pene during his time in Berlin.

It was a pleasure to hear his reflections on the film, his experience in Berlin, and the stories he brings from New Zealand and the Pacific to audiences around the world.

From tomorrow, June 6, the film will be available to audiences in Germany on Arte and ZDF.

Deputy Ambassador Ross Batchelor joined NZDF Air Commodore Andy Scott and Defence Attaché Wing Commander Heather PAirbusn a recent visit to Airbus production facilities in Hamburg, where the 's two new A321XLR aircraft will be built in 2027.

The aircraft will be used to support New Zealand's military operations, humanitarian and disaster relief work, NZDF's Antarctica operations and trade & diplomatic missions, and based with 40 Squadron at Whenuapai.

A great opportunity to understand the complexity of producing modern aircraft and Airbus' impressive assembly lines.
Another great example of 🇳🇿🤝🇩🇪 partnership.

Reflecting on a busy and productive few days in Berlin for New Zealand’s Special Agricultural Trade Envoy, Nathan Guy. 🇳🇿🇩🇪

Highlights included discussions with German State Secretary Martina Englhardt-Kopf; the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Agriculture; meat, dairy, forestry and farmer associations and checking out some premium NZ products in German supermarkets. 🥩🥝

Visits from the special envoy ensure New Zealand’s products and farming practices remain understood in market while New Zealand producers can understand future changes in the German market. This allows our well loved and high quality food products (over NZ$500m in 2025) to continue to thrive in Germany! 📈🍽️
