Iran sits at the negotiating table calling for regional de-escalation while its missiles and drones continue to strike refugee camps and offices of Iranian Kurdish political parties in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Members of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and other Kurdish parties have been killed. This contradiction cannot be ignored.

Peace cannot be selective. No framework for regional stability can be taken seriously if it tolerates ongoing military aggression against political organisations. Accountability must apply to all parties, from the negotiating table to the ground.

The Progressive Alliance condemns these attacks and stands in solidarity with the Kurdish people, with our sister parties in the region, and with all those demanding that the Kurdistan regions be part of any meaningful framework for lasting peace in the Middle East.

Ukraine. Lebanon. Iran. Venezuela.

At the PA Global Connect at the Global Progressive Mobilisation in Barcelona, leaders from countries living through wars and conflicts shared their realities.

Bohdan Ferens arrived from Kyiv, where his wife had just sent him photos of drones flying past their apartment. Manal Said spoke for Lebanon: "We are not collateral damage. We are human beings." Mustafa Hijri (PDKI), whose party has faced repeated attacks by the Iranian regime, asked for one thing: "Not charity. Solidarity." Dariana Polo (Cambiemos Movimiento Ciudadano) called for dialogue as the only path forward for Venezuela.
We stand with them.

“Global systems have often been designed without us, and too often against us. The question is: will progressives shape that change, or be shaped by it?”

At the Global Progressive Mobilisation in Barcelona, the Progressive Alliance and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung hosted Progressive Approaches for a New World Order, bringing together progressive leaders from across continents.

With Magdalena Andersson (Social Democratic Party, Sweden), Paulina Vodanovic (Socialist Party, Chile), Jameson Timba (Citizens’ Coalition for Change, Zimbabwe), Wayne Swan (Australian Labor Party), and Tim Klüssendorf (SPD, Germany). Moderated by Machris Cabreros, PA Global Coordinator.

The rule of law must matter more than the law of the strongest. That is the line we must defend.

Day 2 in Barcelona: from convergence to clarity.

Across two days of the Global Progressive Mobilisation, one direction emerged: progressives are not only responding to global crises, we are defining the terms of what comes next.

From feminist leadership to debates on a new world order, discussions across the Progressive Alliance, Party of European Socialists, PES Women, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and other partners made clear that the contest we face is political at its core, about democracy, power, and whose interests shape the future.

The closing plenary did not just conclude the gathering. It sharpened a shared position: stronger alliances, deeper coordination, and sustained action across regions are no longer optional, they are necessary.

What emerged in Barcelona is a clearer, more coordinated progressive response to a changing world.
