Progress for Matthew Brown at the council elections in Preston

It was a case of ‘as you were’ following this year’s local elections in Preston, with not a single seat changing hands.

Since the late 1970s, neoliberal policies have hollowed out the state, outsourced work to large corporations, and taken money away from local communities. Over the last 10 years, a new socialist model for replacing these extractive systems and remaking local economies from the bottom up has been developing, it is known as Community Wealth Building. One of the best examples of this in practice is in Preston. On 7 September, Matthew Brown, leader of Preston City Council and co-author of Paint Your Town Red, will be talking about the Preston Model of Community Wealth Building at

We are honoured to have a guest speaker, Khaing Zar Aung, the President of the Industrial Workers' Federation of Myanmar (IWFM). She will be talking about the current crisis in Myanmar.
