Please bring your old passport and visit the Consulate General office on weekdays during consular hours (9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) to collect your new passport.

The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Cyprus, Mr. U.L. Niyaz, met with Mr. Zacharias Siokouros, Chief Executive Officer of the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), together with research scientists of the Institute, to exchange views on marine and maritime research, innovation and technology, and to explore potential avenues for collaboration with Sri Lanka.

The discussion covered a range of areas of mutual interest, including the work of relevant marine and maritime research institutions in Sri Lanka, research and innovation, knowledge exchange, and opportunities for institutional cooperation.

The meeting highlighted the potential for strengthening links between Sri Lankan and Cypriot institutions in the fields of marine science, maritime technology and sustainable development, with a view to fostering future research collaboration and the exchange of expertise.

Ms. Manel Abeysekera made history in 1958 as Sri Lanka’s first woman career diplomat, paving the way for generations of women to serve the country in the field of diplomacy. During her career, she served in several important capacities, including as Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Thailand and Germany.

Her pioneering contribution to the Sri Lanka Foreign Service and her dedicated service to the country will be remembered with profound respect and appreciation.

The Ministry extends its deepest condolences to her family and loved ones during this time of profound sorrow.
