Our Story
İstasyon is a neighborhood in Çamlıköy located on the south eastern outskirts of the village, 5 km south of Gemikonağı Port and 3 km east of the Lefke's Town Centre in Northern Cyprus. During the British Administration of Cyprus, a railway line was built between Famagusta and Lefkoşa in 1905. This line was extended to Lefke in 1914, at the same time, in an uninhabited area on the southeastern outskirts of Çamlıköy a railway station was also built. This station functioned as a place of exchange of services, goods and post office for the district of Lefke. During this period, many businesses opened around the station and a new residential estate was also established in the surrounding area. Turkish Cypriots named this new neighborhood as 'İstasyon' simple meaning 'Station'; Greek Cypriots called it 'Kalohorio Lefkas' meaning 'Lefke's good village'. When Çamlıköy Train Station was closed most of the businessmen moved to Lefka's CBD. The remaining a few migrated to the south of Cyprus after the 'Population Exchange Agreement' between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots under the auspices of the United Nations in 1975.
