WITH Christmas over, Brits are looking to their next sunshine break, with Cyprus proving a popular choice because of the sunny weather and price.

The British Post Office says that Cyprus is the cheapest winter-sun favourite holiday destination.

According to Post Office Travel Money, a seven nights stay in Paphos costs just £327 per person, including flights, accommodation, local drinks and evening meals.

A break costs £363 per person in Tenerife and £460 in Lanzarote.

Post Office Travel Money spokesman Andrew Brown says: "Bargain hunters will find Europe cheapest for a New Year break, but the best January temperature they can expect is 21C. Long-haul beach resorts can soar to 27C and have longer sunshine hours. The downside is that flying further means higher air fares.”

Tourism officials on the island have been celebrating, after figures last month showed that October saw the highest number of tourist arrivals in Cyprus ever recorded in the tenth month of the year.

Cystat announced that on the basis of the results of the passengers survey, arrivals of tourists reached 406.870 in October 2017 compared to 357.194 in October 2016, recording an increase of 13.9%.

Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 0.5% in October 2017 compared to October 2016 while tourists from Russia increased by 7.1%.
