Today, we proudly mark 85 years of diplomatic relations between Ottawa and Belgrade — a relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation, and lasting friendship.

Since its establishment in 1941, our partnership has grown through strong diplomatic ties, cultural exchange, and meaningful people-to-people connections.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we reflect on our shared history and look ahead to continued cooperation and collaboration in the years to come.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Archives of Yugoslavia for their support and for preserving and sharing historical materials, including original documents and images that help us honor this significant moment in our shared history.

The return of the direct flight marks a major step ahead of the 85th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ottawa and Belgrade. More than a new route, it is a strategic bridge between our two economies.

On board the inaugural flight is Minister Đurić alongside a Serbian business delegation, heading to explore concrete opportunities in key sectors such as technology, energy, infrastructure, agri-food, and services 📈

A big recognition to the team at Air Serbia 👏 for restoring this long-haul connection after more than three decades.

Ambassador Cameron and our Trade Commissioner are also en route to Toronto, as we open this new chapter in Canada–Serbia relations 🇨🇦🤝🇷🇸

Ambassador Cameron visited the University of Belgrade today, where she met with the University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Vladan Đokić, to gain insight into the challenges the University is currently facing in its work.

During the meeting, the importance of preserving university autonomy, freedom of thought, and the independence of academic institutions was emphasized as the foundation of any democratic society. The Rector informed the Ambassador about the current circumstances and pressures affecting the work of faculty members, researchers, and students.

The Ambassador of Canada expressed her strong support for upholding academic principles, highlighting that free education, critical thinking, and institutional independence are essential for the development of a society based on knowledge and democratic values.

The visit was viewed as a significant sign of support for the University of Belgrade and the academic community as a whole.
