American Corner Belgrade was founded on May 16th, 2003 in cooperation with the Belgrade City Library and U.S. On October 17, 2006 the American Corner was reopened in its current location in the Cultural Center Dom omladine. The Corner provides access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book collections, the Internet, and through local programming for the general public. Embassy

in Belgrade, Belgrade City Library and Youth Cultural Center, the American Corner serves as an information outpost similar to a public library. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are open and accessible to all interested citizens. Associated reading, meeting and programming rooms are made available to host program events and activities (i.e. workshops, speaker programs, film screenings, meetings and exhibits). About AC

American Corner Belgrade was founded on May 16th, 2003 in cooperation with the Belgrade City Library and U.S. American Corner consists of a collection of books in English about the U.S. The book collection includes reference titles, works of fiction, business and government publications, as well as e-books available on Kindle devices. American Corner also provides access to U.S. information through Internet access, audio and video materials, and CD-ROMs. Access to American Corner collections is free and open to all interested citizens. America is a country that has been built and continues to be built by immigrants. Most people celebrate this diversity as a strength of our country. However, people from other countries often wonder how a country of such diversity can have a unified national identity. Susie will first engage people in their preconceptions of American culture. Then she will explain 6 traditional values that all Americans share. These values are built upon the desires of immigrants when arriving in the US and we will see how occasionally these values are beneficial and sometimes problematic. There will be an opportunity for sharing and reflection and a chance to compare and contrast Serbian values with the 6 American values presented.

Step into the future of neuroscience tech with Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMIs) demos from our Summer Workshop Showcase! On Wednesday, July 10th, AC Belgrade will host an evening filled of educational neuroscience technology demonstrations by local high school students.

These talented young minds have spent a week exploring the fascinating world of BMIs, creating devices that connect human physiology to technology. You'll be amazed by over 12 innovative projects, including a DIY Hand Neuroprosthetic, heartbeat controlled music, and leg muscle controlled robotic keyboard.

These demos not only highlight the incredible potential of BMIs to enhance human abilities but also demonstrate how accessible and empowering this technology can be for everyone.

This event is a unique opportunity to witness the creativity and ingenuity of 20 high school students working in small teams . They have poured their passion and skills into building projects that bridge the gap between biology and technology. Additionally, we'll have live neuroscience demos that provide a deeper understanding of how these interfaces work.

Whether you're a tech enthusiast, a neuroscience buff, or simply curious about the future of human-machine interaction, this event is for you. Don’t miss out on this chance to be inspired by the next generation of innovators!

Greg Gage is a neuroscientist and the CEO of Backyard Brains, dedicated to making neuroscience accessible to everyone. Greg is an award winning NIH researcher, TED speaker, and has published extensively in neuroscience (including a Serbian book in 2024). He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and is passionate about engaging students in STEM through innovative hands-on projects.
