It is always great to see Australians establishing businesses in Serbia, and especially a winery given the excellent wineries and skills of winemakers in both Australia and Serbia.

Under the legendary oak tree of Plavi Perun, Australia's Ambassador met with winemaker John Šuša, whose journey has taken him from Australia with his strong Serbian roots to Serbia.

Inspired by the landscapes of Šumadija and the rolling hills around Topola and beneath the shade of a remarkable oak tree, John created Plavi Perun. Today, the winery is well known for its close connection to the traditions of this premier wine-growing region.

A night to remember in Belgrade.

On Friday Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds returned to Belgrade for Nick Cave’s eighth performance in Serbia, perfoming to a packed audience. There is clearly a special bond between Nick and his band and the Serbian audience. The location of the concert below the Belgrade Fortress only added to the atmosphere.

Ambassador Truswell greatly enjoyed this concert by one of Australia’s finest artists. Let’s hope Nick and band will return to Belgrade soon.

Ambassador Truswell welcomed the opportunity to give an interview to highly esteemed Serbian weekly Nedeljnik Vreme and share his views on modern day diplomacy, and on the common challenges we are all facing. One challenge is climate change and the Ambassador talked about Australia’s role as President of Negotiations at the forthcoming COP31 and the hope the talks could move from commitment to practical results. The discussion also covered the importance of international cooperation, technological change, future of liberal democracies and the opportunities created through closer engagement between our two countries.
We thank Vreme and Stevan Ristic for the opportunity to discuss the growing partnership between Australia and Serbia and the importance of dialogue in addressing shared global challenges.

Ambassador Truswell was pleased to participate in a conversation with Professor Ger Duijzings, alongside members of the diplomatic community and experts engaged in issues of dialogue, reconciliation and regional cooperation, the discussion was hosted by Dutch Ambassador Elgersma.

Professor Duijzings is a distinguished historian and social anthropologist whose research has focused on Southeastern Europe for several decades, including the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. Through his academic work and public engagement, he has made an important contribution to understanding the region's recent history and the challenges of dealing with the past.

The discussion highlighted the value of informed dialogue and exchange of perspectives on issues that continue to shape the region today.

Did you know that Australia ranks among the world's most sought-after wildlife destinations?

A new global study by Explore Worldwide has found that Australia is the most in-demand destination for wildlife experiences, chosen by 38% of survey participants.

Based on responses from more than 2,000 people worldwide, the study identified the world's "new Big Five" animals as the panda, elephant, kangaroo, koala and whale. Australia is home to three of these five species.

The research also found that travel habits are shifting beyond the traditional safari experience.

So for the animal lovers out there, why not pick Australia as your next holiday destination, knowing also that we offer so much more besides, whether in culture, beautiful beaches or diversity and quality of food.

Ambassador Truswell visited Niš for the first time and was pleased to learn about the rich history and culture of this beautiful city. During the visit, he met with Mayor Dragoslav Paunović and discussed Niš's economic development plans and opportunities for future cooperation.

The Ambassador also met with representatives of opposition political parties and of the media. He appreciated the open and insightful discussions on the political and economic situation in Niš and the region.

Visits to the castle, Skull Tower and the Mediana archaeological site helped the Ambassador to learn more about the remarkable history and cultural heritage of one of Serbia's oldest cities.

Ambassador Truswell looks forward to returning to Niš and to continuing to strengthen the cooperation and friendship between our countries.

We were delighted to welcome Melbourne’s acclaimed chamber music ensemble Ensemble Liaison for a special performance for Embassy guests. World-renowned musicians David Griffith, Svetlana Bogosavljevic and Timothy Young, joined by talented Serbian violinist Una Stanić, treated audiences to an inspiring concert showcasing exceptional artistry and international collaboration.
Fresh from performances at BELEF Festival in Belgrade and Festival Ravanellius in Ćuprija as part of their European tour, Ensemble Liaison continues to captivate audiences around the world.
