Pacuare Reserve / Reserva Pacuare We are a working reserve in Costa Rica with 2000 acres of tropical forest and 6Kms of coastline We have accommodation to suit all visitors.

We are a working reserve established in 1989 with almost 2000 acres of tropical forest and 6Kms of beach, which is one of the most important nesting sites in the country of the endangered leatherback turtle. From March to the end of August we have 2 biologists and 8 field assistants and every visitor is invited to join them during the night patrols and witness at close range the nesting process - an unforgettable experience for all who have seen it. The forest and the canals are rich in wildlife which includes lots of monkeys and rarer species such as jaguar and ocelot. Apart from the beach patrols we offer day/night guided walks along the forest paths and boat trips on the canal to see wading birds, crocodiles and caimans. We can take groups of up to 20/30 people in cabins with 2/3 persons per room, 3 double beach side bedrooms and up to 8 people in the Casa Grande- for those seeking more comfort and privacy and a huge balcony overlooking the sea and lagoon. All this is on the website in more detail. Pacuare Reserve is now under the stewartship of Ecology Project International and is a not for profit organization. All proceeds go straight back to the Reserve. With your visit you directly support our work on behalf of the turtles and all the other species that have found refuge at Pacuare Reserve.

Did you know there are animals that are incredibly difficult to spot?

The Silky Anteater (Cyclopes didactylus) is one of them. This small nocturnal mammal spends most of its life in the forest canopy looking for ants, using its long prehensile tail and strong claws to move among the branches.

Recently, we had a rare sighting at Pacuare Reserve. The photo may not be perfect, but the encounter certainly was! 💚
