Now is one of the best times of year to witness these beautiful creatures making their way back to the OCEAN 🌊🐢 September and October are especially active months for sea turtle nesting and releases along our coast.

Here in Esterillos, our local community has a sea turtle conservation project dedicated to protecting turtle eggs and giving hatchlings a safer path to the ocean, away from predators.

From July through December, if you’re staying in the area, don’t hesitate to ask us about turtle releases. We’ll be happy to share more information on how you can join this beautiful experience with your family and friends, learn more about local conservation efforts, and support an organization doing important work in our community 🤍

We’re so excited to announce the second round of Future Villages Conference! This is an intimate weekend retreat centered on practical learning and honest dialogue around village-scale community development 🌳🌱🤝

This is not a traditional conference, but a peer-level exchange grounded in lived experience, shared meals, time on the land, and candid discussion about the real challenges of turning a community vision into reality.

We’re looking forward to learning alongside many community leaders in Costa Rica, including indigenous leaders like Lourdes from the Boruca tribe and Jorge from Bröran tribe. We will also be joined by local organizations that are doing important social and environmental work such as Jacó Impact and Zero Waste Costa Rica

After harvesting tons of achiote seeds, our team has gathered to process these important seeds for the Costa Rican culture.

Known internationally as annatto, achiote (Bixa orellana) holds an important place in the traditions, cuisine, and natural medicine practices of many Indigenous communities.

From natural food coloring and culinary applications to skin care, cultural practices, and plant-based remedies, achiote continues to be a valuable resource that connects people to the land and their ancestral knowledge.

We’d like to thank the group from that did a tree planting during their time at Toji and planted an achiote tree which is currently producing a lot of these wonderful seeds!
