Despite a 53-year-old Supreme Court ruling voiding such laws, the Constitution of 7 states prohibit an atheist from holding public office. Yes, we’re talking about you Arkansas, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina Tennessee, Texas and Mississippi.

Now don’t worry, our candidates at the PFP hold a steadfast belief in this Noodliness, so holding office in these states won’t be a problem. But we feel a need to stick up for the 9% of Americans who identify as Atheist or Agnostic.

Sure, we know these are dead letter laws, but laws don’t have to be enforced by the courts to have a chilling effect. The end goal should be to have diversity and representation in our public offices aligned with our country’s demographics.

Anti-vaxxer and US Senator, Rand Paul, recently came out as pro-omicron, calling it “Nature’s Vaccine.” That’s right, this “Doctor’s” innovative solution to illness is to kill the patients so there won’t be any more sick people.
