Prior to the 2015 regional reform, Atabae had an area of 44.94 km². [4] Now it is 37.74 km². The Suco is located in the north-east of the administrative office of the same name. To the west lies Suco Rairobo, southwest Aidabaleten, and south Hataz. On the other side of the river Nunura is the administrative office of Cailaco, with its Suco Purugua, in the north-east of Suco Aculau (administrative office of Hatulia, municipality of Ermera), and in the north the administrative office of Maubara (municipality of Liquiçá), with its Sucos Guiço and Gugleur.
The river Hatoleai rises in the southern border region between Rairobo and Atabae, flows southwards, then swings eastwards and forms the entire southern border of Atabaes. Finally, he joins the Nunura. Where the Sucos Atabae, Aculau and Purugua meet, Nunura and Marobo together form the river Lóis, which then flows further west, along with the northern border of Atabaes, with some arms reaching the Sucos area.
Most major places of the Sucos are near the Nunura. From south to north, these are Koilima, Hatubou, Dirularan, Puemate, Daarobu, Loumate, Lugu Teho, Aidabaracabe, Fatubesi, and Fatudi. The places partly go directly into each other. At the confluence of Nunura and Marobo are the villages of Kakamata and Madebau (Madeboau, Madehoau). The villages of Oebola and Oekiar are located at the Lóis. At the Hatoleai is the village of Atumate. To the south lie the towns of Saburapo and Maletet, in the northwest of Malete. There are primary schools in Dirularan and Fatubesi. In Dirularan there is also a helicopter site for emergencies.
Atabae is divided into the five Aldeias Fatubesi, Helesu (Hel-Lesu), Lolocolo, Madebau, and Saburapo.
