Sustainable Oats from Europe – Business Matchmaking China 2026 was organized last week in Shanghai. Three member companies from Finland joined the event to present their unique, high-quality oat products: Fazer Mills, Helsingin Mylly / Helsinki Mills, and 65 Oats Kinnusen Mylly Oy.

The event served as an important platform for Nordic oat producers to connect with Chinese partners and further strengthen the countries’ cooperation and trade relations. The market in China for trade in food and agriculture is significant, and Finnish products are renowned for nature-friendly farming practices – keeping chemical inputs to a minimum and the complete phasing out of antibiotics in poultry production since 2009. Our core strength lies in natural purity, transparency, safety, and sustainable development.

In addition to the business matchmaking, the event included a menu tasting, presentations and speeches from the Finnish Consul General, Anu Vuori, and Swedish Consul General, Annika Hahn-Englund.

Learn some Chinese Dragon Boat Festival words with us! 🐉

This weekend is a rare alignment of two massive Finnish and Chinese summer traditions: Midsummer and the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (端午节)☀️

Talking about the Dragon Boat Festival, ever wonder about its origins? 🎋 Some 2000 years ago Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet, drowned himself in the Miluo River. To protect his body from fish, locals threw packets of rice wrapped in bamboo into the water and beat drums to scare the fish off. It was also an ancient day dedicated to warding off summer diseases and honoring the Dragon King.

Some of this might sound very familiar and, true enough, these are very prominent in modern day celebration.🎉 People enjoy eating the Zongzi, watching the Dragon Boat Races, and hanging herb sachets on their doors to naturally repel summer pests and invite good energy into the home✨️

Wishing everyone a healthy and peaceful holiday weekend. 端午节安康!

The BBQ season is finally here! 🤩 Easily the best time of the year.

Barbecuing is a massive tradition in Finland and a sure sign of summer. Even if it’s a bit chilly and pouring rain outside, you’ll still find us standing by the grill💪 That’s true dedication.

Like Finnish BBQ, Chinese BBQ culture also has long roots and it's a very popular activity. Oftentimes the food is just a bit more spicy😁

Can you spot some other differences between Chinese and Finnish BBQ after watching this video? 👀

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Pride Month!

Last night during the Nordic Pride Film Screening at the Finnish Consulate General we viewed movies and tv series from Finland, Denmark, Norway, and China. Besides the six short films, we enjoyed a panel discussion and speeches from three Consuls General: Finland, Denmark, and Norway. 🎬 The directors of the films also joined the evening with video messages!

The takeaway? Belonging starts when we embrace who we are and create space for others to do the same ❤️

儿童节快乐! Happy Children’s Day from the kids at the Consulate ✨️🫶

The Chinese Children’s Day is celebrated today! In Chinese it is referred to as 六一儿童节 as it falls on June 1 every year!💡 This is a day off from classes where kids get to play and spend time with their families🪁

Lately, it’s not just for kids anymore—many young adults (the ”big kids” or 大儿童 Da Értóng) join in on the nostalgia, buying childhood snacks and wishing each other happy Children’s Day on social media! 🧸

How are you celebrating Children’s Day today?

Cycling towards a greener planet 🌏

Nordic Shanghai Climate Cycling Event took place last Sunday, 24 of May in collaboration with Pudong Foreign Affairs Office and the Consulates General of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.🤝 The trip from Qiantian Youcheng Park to Luijiazui was 24 kilometers and the event was officially kickstarted by speeches from the Vice Mayor of Pudong New Area District and the Consul General of Denmark in Shanghai. 🚲

The aim of the event is to promote the green transition, by encouraging more people to cycle. ☀️

Despite the rain, we all had an absolute blast and crushed it to the finish line, with the Norwegian CG Tobias Svenningsen being the first among the Consuls General to finish !⛈️🏁

“Where people meet, hearts connect.”

When guests sit at the Summer Night’s Dinner table in Oulu on Saturday 15 August, the slogan created by the five design students from China Academy of Art in Oulu’s Sister City Hangzhou will come true.

1,000 meters of an unique tablecloth is the outcome of the very first collaboration between .ry Designers of Northern Finland and China Academy of Art. For over a year the five students have studied the City of Oulu, the European Capital of Culture ,life in the North and done research on what connects the two sister cities.

The proud outcome is five patterns with people, culture, nature, architecture and technology as themes selected by the students.
