𝐵𝑒𝑖𝑗𝑖𝑛𝑔 — On Saturday 23rd May, on a beautiful spring evening, the Solomon Islands Embassy in China actively participated at the first ever Pacific Day 2026, held at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.

The diplomatic event was a joint celebration between the Embassy of New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Island Countries in Beijing, which is purposely designed, focusing on unity, people to people connections and the display of the Pacific region’s rich cultural diversity through art, music, dances, and cuisine amongst others.

On behalf of the Embassy, Ambassador Barrett Salato would like to sincerely acknowledge the New Zealand Embassy for being an excellent host, and for successfully collaborating with other Pacific Islands Embassies in Beijing to make this event a success. H.E Salato also extended his profound gratitude to the Solomon Islands students in Beijing for the cultural performances, that highlighted our diverse and beautiful country, and also to the guest singer – Young Davie, who brought in island music vibes that captivated the audience.

Solomon Islands reaffirmed continued recognition of, and commitment to, the "One China Principle"! 🇸🇧 🤝 🇨🇳

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Rick Hou, today received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to Solomon Islands, H.E. Cai Weiming.

During the meeting, Ambassador Cai extended his congratulations to Minister Hou on his appointment and conveyed warm congratulatory messages from the Premier of the PRC to the new Government of Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale.

The Minister and Ambassador also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest relating to the bilateral relationship between Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China. Minister Hou reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ continued recognition of, and commitment to, the One China Principle.

The Embassy is delighted to share our third 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 student feature for 2026.
We are pleased to introduce two (2) of our outstanding students – 𝑴𝒓. 𝑵𝒆𝒍𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒎𝒆𝒐 and 𝑴𝒓. 𝑳𝒆𝒔𝒍𝒊𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒈𝒖𝒊, who recently participated at the Beijing International Model United Nations and scooped the BEST DIPLOMACY Award.
The Beijing International Model United Nations was hosted from 14 - 17 May 2026. The two young Solomon Islanders, currently studying at the China Foreign Affairs University, were delegates representing New Zealand at the 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗙 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲, discussing the topic: “𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”. The event was hosted by China Foreign Affairs University, directed by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education.
The Beijing International Model United Nations is the biggest Model United Nations simulation in the Asia-Pacific region and it’s an annual event going on for more than 30 years. This year’s conference encompasses 11 committees, including 5 in English, 4 in Chinese, 1 in French, and 1 in Spanish, bringing together over 800 students and faculty members from more than 170 secondary schools and universities, both domestic and international across China.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the UN China Resident Coordinator Mr. Stephen Jackson highlighted that "Model United Nations is not just a simulation, it is a laboratory that breeds and nurture future diplomats and policy makers".
The Embassy would like to congratulate our two young scholars, and echo encouragement to all young Solomon Islanders to engage in debates and discussions on issues and solutions for our country, our Blue Pacific Continent and the world.

𝐏𝐌 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐢

𝑯𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒓𝒂, 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔, 𝑻𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝟏𝟐 𝑴𝒂𝒚 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 - Caretaker Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele today welcomed the handover of MV Isalei in Honiara. The Isalei is a fast craft vessel designed mainly for provincial transport, official travel and emergency response within Isabel Province.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Point Cruz Yacht Club, Prime Minister Manele said the fast craft represents the practical benefits of cooperation and friendship between Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China.

The fast craft was donated by Shandong Province of China to Isabel Province following engagements between provincial leaders and Chinese officials last year.

Prime Minister Manele said the MV Isalei will strengthen maritime connectivity, improve access to services and support safer transportation for communities across Isabel Province and nearby islands.

“This vessel represents friendship translated into action and practical cooperation that directly benefits our people,” Prime Minister Manele said.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China, including officials from Shandong Province, for their continued partnership and support towards Solomon Islands.

He also commended Isabel Province Premier Hon. Lawrence Hayward and the provincial administration for their leadership in securing the vessel for the province.

Prime Minister Manele said the handover demonstrates what can be achieved through mutual respect, development cooperation and strong bilateral relations.

“As a son of Isabel Province, this occasion carries special meaning for me personally. I understand the importance of reliable maritime transport for our people and communities,” he said.

The 11.5-metre fast craft has a capacity for 10 passengers and two crew members, with endurance of up to 210 nautical miles.

Investment opportunities in Solomon Islands highlighted during the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 held in Haikou, Hainan Province, on Wednesday 29th April 2026.

H. E Barrett Salato made an investment promotion presentation to the audience of enthusiastic Chinese entrepreneurs who were eager to expand globally, highlighting business and investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, renewable energy, transport, communication, digital services, and tourism.

Ambassador Salato also highlighted the government’s reform achievements and its ongoing work to create conducive environment for ease of doing business in Solomon Islands. These include transformative infrastructure development for connectivity, the roll-out of telecommunication towers throughout the provinces, implementation of new comprehensive e-commerce framework policy, ongoing work to implement the Special Economic Zone 2025 Act, VAT tax reform, national building code law, streamlined foreign investment online registration, duty-free market access to China and other international markets, visa-free agreement with China, and ongoing land reforms.

Ambassador Salato made a pitch to genuine investors and entrepreneurs and share an open invitation to explore business opportunities in the Solomon Islands for a win-win cooperation.

On 24th April, Ambassador Barrett Salato joined Pacific Islands countries envoys to China to explore the development and application of robotic technology and experience interactions with robots.

In recent years, the development of intelligent robots has received extensive attention. To help more friends gain a deeper understanding of the latest development and application in this field in China, the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) organized the event at the Robot Mall in Beijing E-Town.

During the visit, diplomats from Pacific Island countries and representatives from the Chinese side jointly explore the development and application of robotic technology and experience interactions with robots. Both sides also exchange views on the visit and topics of mutual interest.

𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐲𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐢 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞

On 14-16 April, H.E Salato joined other Heads of Missions in China and diplomatic envoys to visit the Beautiful Hebei Province, that offers Boundless Opportunities.

Hebei Province, located in the Northern part of China, covers an area of 188,000 square kilometers and has beautiful scenery.

Hebei is building a new pattern of opening up and creating a national highland, for the opening up to the outside world. The traffic extends in all directions. Nearly 9.000 km of expressways in the province are accessible to every county, and highspeed railways make the one-hour living circle of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei a reality. International land ports and China-Europe freight trains lead in all directions. Along the coastline of 487 kilometers, the three 100-million-ton ports of Qinhuangdao, Tangshan and Huanghua open over 60 container shipping routes for both domestic and international trade, connecting to more than 90 countries and regions. The 7 transportation airports and the two major airports in Beijing set up air corridors, and the three-dimensional transportation network shortens the distance in time and space.

Hebei continues to promote high-standard opening up. Hebei is open and inclusive, looking towards the world with vitality.

On 31st March, the Embassy participated at the Commonwealth Day 2026 Commemoration in Beijing, hosted by the Embassy of Jamaica in China. CdA Ms. Shanel took part in the event, specifically to assist the organizers, and to prepare 7 years old Mr. Shanel as flag bearer of the Solomon Islands flag.

The event included the Launch of the Caucus of Commonwealth of Ambassadors, vibrant performances from students from the British School Beijing, Sri Lankan songs and a Distinguished Lecture by the Honourable Bruce Golding, Former Prime Minister of Jamaica.

The Embassy extends a warm congratulations to the Embassy of Jamaica, the Commonwealth Society in Beijing and all organizers for hosting a successful event.

The Solomon Islands Embassy remains a committed and active member of the Commonwealth Society in Beijing.

Thrilled to introduce Mr. Daniel Bakele, a Bachelor's Degree student majoring in Biomedical Engineering at Southern Medical University.
Mr. Bakele shared his academic journey in China as challenging, yet meaningful. He had acquired invaluable knowledge/skills in his field of study and the Chinese language. He looks forward to returning to Solomon Islands after graduation and work in the hospital as a biomedical technician/engineer.
The Embassy is proud to share Mr. Bakele's story, and hope it inspires and encourage our young men and women to pursue their goals in the science field, speak a new language and showcase our culture where-ever we are.
