More than 26,000 visitors are estimated to have visited this year’s EU Culture Street, which was held on 17-18 April in Hangzhou. This annual feast of EU culture sees EU Member States setting up booths with products from their countries and musical bands and musicians show off the best of Europe. The Embassy of Malta in Beijing, together with the Consulate General of Malta in Shanghai, jointly cooperated to organise a very successful Maltese booth in this year’s event. In collaboration with the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Polytechnic (SICP), a school that hosts an Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) campus, the opportunity was taken to showcase Malta’s rich culinary heritage as part of Europe’s cultural diversity. Besides tourism promotional material the Maltese booth offered two fresh non-alcoholic drinks, expertly prepared by students; Radiant Fizz (a refreshing summer experience with a hint of Mediterranean bitter notes) and Ruġġjata tal-Lewz (an almond sweet taste which for many Maltese reminds them of summer). The booth proved immensely popular, especially in the hot and humid weather of Southern China, with a queue forming even before the event started on the second day. Big thanks go to Institute for Tourism Studies.
