EMBASSY OF BOTSWANA PARTICIPATES AT THE CHINA- AFRICA TOURISM PROMOTION FORUM ~ JINHUA, ZHEJIANG PROVINCE

On 8 October 2024, the Ambassador of Botswana in China, His Excellency Dr. Batlang Comma Serema participated at the 2024 Conference on China ~ Africa Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Exchange.

When addressing the conference , Ambassador Dr Serema shared an overview of Botswana’s Tourism and culture. Ambassador further stressed that tourism plays a crucial role for people to people interactions and further urged participants to consider Botswana as their tourist destination in Africa. Ambassador Dr. Serema concluded by sharing Botswana’s efforts in facilitating foreign investment in key priority sectors such as tourism.

The Conference was attended by over 50 prominent Chinese and African tourism companies.

The Independent Electoral Commission informs Batswana in the diaspora that all External Polling Stations at Botswana Mission Offices will be opened on Saturday 3rd February 2024. You would recall that these have been operating only during Mission Offices' working hours from Monday to Friday.

Similarly, other external Polling Stations that have been operating only on weekends will also open on Friday 2nd February 2024.

This arrangement is meant to facilitate non-resident Batswana whose schedules may have been out of sync with the original arrangement, thereby making it difficult for them to register for the 2024 General Elections.

Please register in large numbers. It is both your right and a civic responsibility

DELEGATION FROM BOTSWANA ATTENDS THE 16TH SENIOR OFFICIALS MEETING OF THE FORUM ON CHINA-AFRICA COOPERATION (FOCAC)

A Botswana delegation led by Ambassador Mr. Nkoloi Nkoloi, Director - Regional Integration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is currently attending the 16th Senior Officials Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, China. Among others, the meeting is expected to review the implementation of outcomes of the FOCAC 8th Ministerial Conference which was held in Senegal in 2021, as well as, exchange views on the preparations for the 2024 FOCAC Conference.

Founded in 2000, FOCAC serves as a mechanism that promotes dialogue and cooperation between China and Africa in various areas including trade and investment, political engagements, and on multilateral issues

EMBASSY HOSTS INVESTMENT AND TRADE FORUM

On 6 September 2023, the Embassy of Botswana in China, led by His Excellency Dr. Batlang Comma Serema, hosted a Botswana Trade and Investment Forum at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). This event is one of the Embassy’s initiatives in its intensified efforts to attract foreign direct investment to Botswana, particularly in the services sector.

The Forum generated substantial interest, drawing approximately 50 prominent Chinese companies representing a wide range of industries including health, tourism, education and transportation. This robust participation underscored the growing interest in Botswana as a viable destination for investment.

His Excellency Dr. Batlang Comma Serema delivered a compelling overview of the Botswana business climate. He highlighted the favourable conditions for foreign investors, citing political stability, investor-friendly policies and an efficient regulatory environment. The Ambassador reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting and facilitating foreign investment in key priority sectors in Botswana. His Excellency Dr. Serema also emphasized initiatives such as tax incentives, streamlined bureaucracy and access to strategic markets through regional trade agreements as compelling reasons for Chinese companies to consider Botswana as a destination for their investments.

During the event, Embassy officials also delivered comprehensive presentations on specific investment opportunities available in key sectors such as health, financial services, infrastructure development and Special Economic Zones.

The Forum concluded with inspiring testimonials from Chinese entrepreneurs who have successfully operated businesses in Botswana for over 20 decades, showcasing the enduring and mutually beneficial partnerships that can be forged between Chinese investors and Botswana.
