I attended the 2026 Global Public Security Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang, China, together with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) colleagues as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs SG colleagues from Beijing and Shanghai Missions.

Hosted by China’s Ministry of Public Security, the Forum focuses on global police training, transnational crime-fighting, and public security governance.

Cross-border collaboration between law enforcement agencies is increasingly important in an inter-connected world. The Home Team has maintained good relations and mutual cooperation with our counterparts at China’s MPS and the departments it oversees. While in Lianyungang, I met forum hosts State Councillor and Minister for Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Vice Minister Ling Zhifeng. We affirmed the positive working relationship between our two Ministries. I also expressed our appreciation for the consular access given to our MFA officers visiting the 52 Singaporeans detained in Guangxi, and requested for continued attention to their well-being, even as investigations are ongoing.

I was also glad to meet with Ministers from other countries participating in the Forum, including Malaysia and Vietnam.

Former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji will be remembered for his significant contributions to China’s reform and development. He advanced China’s economic reforms and guided its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, shaping a period of profound transformation for the country.

Premier Zhu was also an old friend of Singapore. He played an important role in strengthening ties between our two countries, including through his support for the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park. He was also a strong advocate of closer economic links between ASEAN and China, helping to lay the foundations for the extensive cooperation we see today.

My deepest condolences to his family and the people of China during this time of mourning.

From Taobao to Pinduoduo, you can find almost anything in China. Almost. 👀 Some things are just uniquely Singaporean — and worth making room for in the suitcase. 🇸🇬

This National Day, we asked Singaporeans living in Beijing what they brought with them when they moved to China, and what they never fail to restock whenever they’re back home.

From familiar flavours and favourite comforts to a few rather unexpected “essentials”… here’s what made the cut. 🧳🇸🇬

🎂🥳🎇 Happy Birthday, Singapore! 🇸🇬

On 7 August 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Beijing hosted our National Day Reception, marking Singapore's 61st anniversary of independence. We also marked SAF Day, in appreciation of the servicemen and National Servicemen who keep Singapore secure.

We were honoured to welcome Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Miao Deyu and Deputy Chief of Staff of the PLA Navy, Rear Admiral Wu Kewen, as our Guests-of-Honour, and grateful to all who joined us.

Sixty-one years on, Singapore remains a small country of many origins — people of different backgrounds, languages and faiths who built a home together. This year's theme is Go Beyond, and for us that means looking towards a better tomorrow.

🇸🇬🤝🇨🇳 Our partnership with China rests on deep historical ties and practical cooperation. The three Government-to-Government projects — Suzhou Industrial Park, Tianjin Eco-City and the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative — chart how far it has come, and today our work spans AI and digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, sustainable finance, green development and biomedicine.

With mutual respect and mutual benefit, we look forward to deepening our All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership.

Majulah Singapura! 🇸🇬
