I attended the 2026 Global Public Security Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang, China, together with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) colleagues as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs SG colleagues from Beijing and Shanghai Missions.
Hosted by China’s Ministry of Public Security, the Forum focuses on global police training, transnational crime-fighting, and public security governance.
Cross-border collaboration between law enforcement agencies is increasingly important in an inter-connected world. The Home Team has maintained good relations and mutual cooperation with our counterparts at China’s MPS and the departments it oversees. While in Lianyungang, I met forum hosts State Councillor and Minister for Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Vice Minister Ling Zhifeng. We affirmed the positive working relationship between our two Ministries. I also expressed our appreciation for the consular access given to our MFA officers visiting the 52 Singaporeans detained in Guangxi, and requested for continued attention to their well-being, even as investigations are ongoing.
I was also glad to meet with Ministers from other countries participating in the Forum, including Malaysia and Vietnam.
