Today we remember students just like us who 30 years ago took the brave step to oppose a totalitarian, Communist government in China.

This is a timely reminder of the oppression, suffering and misfortune that accompanies the Communist ideology.

In this day and age we are reminded constantly of the horrors of the far-Right and Na**sm - as well we should be - yet people everywhere continue to turn a blind eye to Communist governments and the rising support for these ideologies.

What happened 30 years ago around the world and most noticeably in Tiananmen Square was a grassroots movement from people who wanted liberty, self-determination and freedom from oppressive, authoritarian Governments which were more often than not based in far-Left ideology.

It is our duty as students in democratic, free market countries that enjoy with ease the liberties countless lives around the world were lost in search of to always uphold, preserve and fight for these freedoms no matter the cost.
