ANTIC Rallies North West Mayors to Embrace Tech or Risk Lagging Behind

Barely 48.6 percent of councils in the North West Region currently operate a functional website, and their social media presence remains largely timid. This digital gap is particularly concerning in an era where digital proximity increasingly determines the effectiveness of governance. Local administrative institutions in the region are therefore being urged, as a matter of urgency, to integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into their daily operations in a bid to enhance service delivery and curb revenue leakages.

The Director General of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), Professor Ebot Ebot Enaw, made the appeal today while presiding over the opening of a three-day capacity-building seminar on ICTs for municipal councils in the region. Held under the theme "Local Development in the Era of Digital Transformation," the workshop has brought together mayors and IT administrators from councils across the region's seven divisions.

According to Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, the initiative seeks to equip municipal IT administrators with 21st-century digital skills whose application would fundamentally transform how councils interact with the public. Instead of citizens travelling long distances to council chambers simply to check on the status of a document, modernised digital portals would soon bring such services directly to residents' smartphones and other digital devices.

Beyond communication, the drive towards digitalisation also seeks to address critical structural challenges, notably the modernisation of civil status registries and the automation of local revenue collection.

ANTIC's national track record shows that this digital shift is achievable. To date, the agency has supported 230 councils, representing 64 percent of all councils nationwide, in deploying digital solutions across their operations. Notable successes include securing the National Civil Status Registry platforms in pilot councils such as Diamaré Division in the Far North Region and Wouri Division in the Littoral Region, using ANTIC's Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).

ANTIC is organising the seminar in close collaboration with key institutional stakeholders, including the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development (MINDDEVEL), the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM), the National Civil Status Registration Office (BUNEC), and the Public Contracts Regulatory Agency (ARMP).

🔒🌐 ANTIC Leads Drive for a More Secure and Sovereign Internet in Cameroon

How secure is the Internet you use every day?

This question is at the heart of the 6th National DNS Forum holding in Yaoundé from 17–19 June 2026, bringing together telecommunications operators, Internet service providers, registrars and hosting providers to strengthen the security, stability and sovereignty of Cameroon’s Internet infrastructure.

A major objective of the forum taking place under the theme : "DNS Security and Stability: The Foundation of a High-Quality Internet in Cameroon," is to accelerate the deployment of DNSSEC, a technology that protects Internet users from being redirected to fake or malicious websites. Following the successful deployment of DNSSEC in Cameroon in 2025, stakeholders are now working towards achieving a 100% national validation rate by the end of 2026.

Opening the forum, the Director General of ANTIC, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, underscored a critical challenge: the urgent need for Cameroon to fully transition from Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to IPv6.

He noted that the future of Cameroon’s digital economy depends heavily on the country’s ability to embrace technologies capable of supporting exponential growth in connected devices. He explained that IPv4, which currently powers much of Cameroon’s internet infrastructure, was designed at a time when connected devices were relatively limited. Furthermore, he pointed out that IPv4 poses a significant hurdle for digital investigations; because of address scarcity, providers are forced to share public IP addresses among multiple users, obscuring individual digital footprints.

With the rapid emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), smart devices, sensors, and interconnected services, the pool of available IPv4 addresses has become increasingly insufficient to meet growing local demand. This reality, Prof. Enaw added, makes the transition to IPv6 not only necessary but urgent. He further noted that IPv6 provides a virtually unlimited address space, enabling billions of devices to connect directly and securely to the internet.

In light of this, he urged telecommunications operators, internet service providers, and all stakeholders within Cameroon’s internet ecosystem to accelerate IPv6 adoption. Doing so, he concluded, is vital to fostering local innovation, supporting digital transformation, and securing a viable future for the nation's digital economy.

Strengthening Cameroon’s Framework: ANTIC Joins

The National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) has secured membership in the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), marking a significant step in its efforts to strengthen Cameroon’s cybersecurity framework.

FIRST, a global platform that fosters cooperation among Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), announced ANTIC’s admission on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
This milestone follows ANTIC’s successful completion of the admission requirements based on the SIM3 (Security Incident Management Maturity Model), which evaluates the maturity and operational capabilities of incident response teams.

With this achievement, is now better positioned to enhance the resilience of Cameroon’s cybersecurity ecosystem by leveraging FIRST’s impactful A4 (Actioning Alerts and Advisories) Initiative. This initiative provides national CSIRTs with free access to critical risk-reporting services, facilitates connections with international cybersecurity experts during crises, and offers practical playbooks for incident response and threat mitigation.

ANTIC’s Director General, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, says this development represents a strategic step towards strengthening Cameroon’s integration into global cybersecurity networks and partnerships. He emphasizes that international collaboration in combating cybercrime is indispensable, as the threat has evolved from a local issue into a global concern due to the interconnected nature of critical infrastructure.

ANTIC Positions Digital Sovereignty as a Strategic Priority for 2026

ANTIC’s Action Plan for 2026 is focused on advancing Cameroon’s digital sovereignty, a strategic pillar for national development and an essential foundation for building a sustainable digital economy, enabling the State to exercise effective control over digital infrastructure and data while fostering public trust, institutional resilience and the secure governance of critical systems.

ANTIC’s Director General, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, outlined the Agency’s 2026 policy direction today while opening the Annual Conference of Central and Devolved Services in Limbe. The conference is held under the theme: “Performance, Trust, and Digital Sovereignty: Advancing ANTIC’s Role in Serving the State and Citizens.”
Referring to the theme, the Director General emphasized that achieving digital sovereignty requires ANTIC, alongside other stakeholders in Cameroon’s digital ecosystem, to maintain effective control over digital infrastructure, ensure the protection of sensitive data, strengthen resilience against cyber threats and anticipate rapid technological change.

In 2026, the Agency will further reinforce its monitoring, prevention, and response mechanisms to safeguard trust in the national cyberspace and protect citizens from cybercrime.
To effectively implement this policy direction, staff members are called upon to align their individual and collective efforts with the Director General’s vision for 2026, which includes:

➡️ Building a results-driven, disciplined, and innovation-oriented Agency.

➡️ Fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.

➡️ Positioning ANTIC as a forward-looking centre of excellence in cybersecurity and digital governance.

ANTIC is well-positioned to meet this challenge, thanks to the recent acquisition and deployment of state-of-the-art cybersecurity technologies valued at over FCFA 735 million under the PATNUC initiative, marking a significant milestone in government’s efforts to strengthen national cyber resilience.

By leveraging its technological capacity and human capital, ANTIC will strive to surpass its 2025 ex*****on rate of 95.96% for planned activities, compared to 91.16% in 2024.

Placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL), ANTIC’s participation in the ceremony underscored the Agency’s steadfast commitment to aligning its actions with the national vision for a secure, resilient and innovative digital ecosystem.

On this occasion, marked by a symbolic and cordial handshake with the Minister, the Director General reaffirmed ANTIC’s unwavering commitment to continue:

🛡️ Safeguarding the integrity and reliability of national digital platforms;

🌐 Enhancing cybersecurity preparedness and response capabilities;

The New Year wishes ceremony signified the culmination of a three-day workshop on the adoption of artificial intelligence in Cameroon, which brought together key stakeholders from the country’s digital ecosystem. The event also provided an opportunity to review the performance of the ICT sector in 2025 and to outline the policy direction for 2026.

As Cameroon continues to advance its digital transformation agenda, ANTIC undertakes to remain fully engaged alongside sector stakeholders in building a trusted and resilient cyberspace that supports sustainable development.

Cameroon’s cybersecurity strides, piloted by ANTIC, have been commended by the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union, Dr. Cosmas Zavazava. He made the remarks during an official visit to ANTIC’s Head Office in Yaoundé as part of a three-day working tour of Cameroon’s ICT institutions.

Encouraged by Cameroon’s ranking in the Global Cybersecurity Index, with a score of 65.63 out of 100, Dr. Zavazava pledged BDT’s support in strengthening the capacity of ANTIC’s cybersecurity personnel, with a view to enhancing the Agency’s operational efficiency and fostering a more resilient national cyberspace.

Speaking on the occasion, ANTIC’s Director General, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, commended the long-standing and productive collaboration between ITU and ANTIC, established in 2011 via the ITU-IMPACT partnership, which supported the creation of Cameroon’s Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT).

Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw emphasized that, in order for CIRT to continue effectively safeguarding the national cyberspace amid rapidly evolving cyber threats, sustained BDT support in strengthening staff operational capacity remains essential to ensure continuous adaptation to emerging challenges.

He further welcomed BDT’s commitment to support ANTIC’s cybersecurity drive, noting that such collaboration will help strengthen the integrity of Cameroon's public digital systems and enhance trust, thereby promoting the adoption of digital services, particularly those involving digital identity and digital payments.

The Director of BDT was accompanied on the visit by four other ITU officials serving in regional offices across the African continent.
